Carb Nite/Carb Back Loading

The new issue of Men's Fitness has an interesting article about something called Carb Nite and also carb back-loading. It has to do with timing the way you eat your carbs. Anybody had any experience with this? Results? BS?

I've heard of this. I read about it in relation to weight lifters in particular. They start their workouts (ideally) between 3-5 and back load on carbs. {IDK} if it REALLY works for them though0

I think I'm going to try back-loading for a month and see what it's doing. I tend to learn best by trail and error so I figure even if it's crap, it will help me to be more informed when I manage to make it to Dietitian/Personal Trainer land.0 -
2 weeks into this and I am getting good results, I have gone up 4.4 lbs in weight and leaned out a little bit I am still adjusting to the schedule change but am getting results. For visual here is me at the start and then end of week 2 into a kind of half assed attempt at carb backloading.

I tried carb back load for 10 days. I felt good, no hunger, but I had absolutely nothing in the tank in the gym. It may have been due to timing, as I worked out at lunch time, but I stopped due to poor workouts.0

Sounds like you were not eating enough carbs at the end of the day, I have seen pretty big increases in my strength in the gym in 2 weeks via this method. I train fasted and later in the evening (7pm) usually so it works out good for me.0

I know this is an old post but I just had to say that Carb Back Loading absolutely works. I just took pics of myself after one month and I have definitely leaned out. I have stayed at the same weight (even fluctuated back and forth) and I have gotten stronger with my lifts. The best part is that I feel great during the day and do not have that bloated feeling from eating carbs. This is not an excuse to eat crappy foods. I eat extremely clean during the day and eat carbs at night, but not as excessively as many guys that do this. The author who wrote the e-book even says that women should not eat nearly as many carbs as men.
I like that I can still eat a couple slices of pizza and some ice cream at night and still get leaner. I can't wait to see myself in a few months!0 -
The program works pretty good, however I will caution MOST people about backloading, it's not for everybody.

Anything that creates a overall caloric deficit, you will lose weight (does not matter when you granuarily time your calories). Anything that puts you into a caloric surplus, you will gain weight. CarbNite/Backloading is just some guy's attempt at marketing carb cycling that's been around for a while and sell it on the premise that you can eat "dirty" foods at certain times to bio-hack the body. Does carb cycling work? Yes to a degree, as it's been proven that you get better performance and better anabolic response from timing your carbs around your workout. But in the scope of ones diet and nutrition, nutrient timing only accounts for maybe 10% of any benefit, assuming your calories and macronutrients are in line (they account for about 80%).0
