Hi all, I wondered if you've got any advice - it's related to this board as it was exercise induced. lol
i fell off my horse 2 weeks ago (just over) and had a rather fetching bruise (about 12 inches wide) on my left hip.
It's now fading nicely but I'm left with a lump / hardening under it which is still sore when pressure applied and I can't lay on my left side. :(

Any tips on helping it heal or how long it'll take? I know that is likely how long is a piece of string but I'm getting grumpy as can't turn over in the night. lol

Thanks,

Sounds like a hematoma, which is a deeper blood clot (but not in a blood vessel). Anti-inflammatories (Motrin or Aleve) and heat will help, but your body has to absorb the old blood so it does take some time.

Also try applying wet heat as much as you can. Hope it helps.

I can't really help you with how long it'll take to stop hurting, but I fell down the stairs a year ago and landed hard on my bum, and I *still* have a hard lump there. :( I'm not sure if it would help but you might consider massaging the area as it starts to hurt less so you help break up scar tissue and get blood flow to everything.

I give a second on the motion that it is a hematoma. That is consistent with what you describe.

    They just take time.

About two weeks ago I injured my leg. I got a nice eggplant size and color bruise on my upper thigh. It has faded and I got a large hard lump too. It dramatically improved after I took a long soak in a hot bubble bath. So I can confirm by my own experience that moist heat works.

Thanks everyone, I'll start back on anti-inflams then, i stopped taking them after a few days as don't like taking meds for no reason.
Will try some heat too I have a wheat pad I can apply etc. Fingers x'd it eases soon.
