Hate to be so negative, but I'm struggling (vent)...

I'm struggling a lot! Let me give you some back story here, so you can feel like you know me :) I was a slightly overweight child, losing a bunch of weight just before entering highschool, and over the course of those years at highschool I slowly gained it all back and then some of course because I was older and grew. I started college in 2001 and during my first semester I went from weighing 220 pounds to 160 pounds, it took about 5 months and at 5'11" it looked pretty darn good on me! I met my husband then and between then and our wedding in 2004 I gained about 30 pounds back. Six months after our wedding I got pregnant with our first daughter, and gained 70 pounds!! BUT, I lost it all in the first year. In spring of 2007 I got pregnant again with twins, and gained about 40 pounds during the whole pregnancy. When our boys were a few days old our baby A was diagnosed with a serious heart defect, he died when they were 20 days old, so I lost none of my pregnancy weight and indulged in some serious grief eating over the next few years. I got pregnant again in Summer of '10, and now have a six month old daugher, and basically have not lost a pound. I seem to get all reved up, and devise a plan, and fall flat on my face over and over, giving in to emotional eating and addictive behaviors (with food). And I'm just so sick of myself and so sick of telling everyone how good I am going to do and then failing so obviously right before their eyes! I've lost weight before, and I'm a pretty smart person, I know exactly WHAT to do, it's just climbing over these big mental road blocks I put up in my own head!

I just want success! I just wish I would stop this stupid cycle of repeatedly bombing out and that I would just DO IT ALREADY!! I want this, for myself, for my kids, for my husband, for vanity, for health, for longevity, so what on earth is wrong with me!?!

I'm just so mad at myself :( I don't know what to do next, I don't know what's missing?

Thanks for letting me vent

Katie

You have to write in the box if you want a question answered. What are you struggling with?

Hmm, I thought I was just posting for motivation and support, I don't have a question, only seeking motivation, and support.

It's tough! I'm new to this and already frustrated with trying to log homemade salads. You've accomplished a lot, congratulations!

    Thanks :)

I've had great success with MFP before, and have loved the sense of community and support, I hope to really use it to the full now and hopefully get myself on track again!

if it's that you are having trouble limiting what you eat each day, use the Diary as your guiding light. It helps you tally how you are doing as the day goes on (tally against your daily calorie goal). Also, if you really use it (and keep it set on Public so your MFP friends can see it) you will find that you don't WANT to eat junk food because you don't want to mess up your Diary! Also, I LOVE getting an extra 300 or so cals from exercising -- I can either eat those cals, eat some of them, or not eat them, but they give me a nice little "buffer zone" in any case. Good luck. For this to work, you really have to make up your mind to do the Diary every day (except for rare occasions). Have a nice supportive group of MFP friends to help keep you focused and give you that nice positive reinforcement! Best wishes.

OH! And I now see above that you have made some progress (lost over 30 pounds!), so I guess you do know how it's done. So, do it!! I know you want to meet that Spring 2012 goal, and you can!! Just have to keep your eye on the prize and stay focused. Eat HEALTHY foods: veggies, some fresh fruit, yogurt, lean proteins, little or no sweets or junk food! If you do that, you will succeed!

Try new foods and cooking things in different ways, you may be surprised. Taste changes sometimes and in some cases maybe you didn't like how it was served to you.

You don't have to drink water, most liquids will count just the same. :)

My trouble is letting a "stumble" turn into a fall, it's letting my emotions and my stress get the best of me one day, and finding myself struggling to get back on the wagon the next day. I let myself get lost in the busyness of the day and I make excuses for myself, and thus, I never get beyond that initial discomfort to the point where I'm on a roll and enjoying myself and the losses I'm getting so much that it's harder to get derailed.

I'm sorry if perhaps some of you think I should just stop whining, I understand that it can be annoying when someone seems so negative, but I don't really have anywhere to let these feelings out, and I thought it would counter productive to keep them in.

Thanks to all for the support, I do honestly appreciate it!

I'm struggling with weight lifting. I want to start incorporating strength into my workout, currently mostly cardio, but I don't understand how the equipment at the gym works, and I feel like everybody is staring at the big girl trying to use the machines wrong. Seriously thinking about paying for a personal trainer session, but scared.

Do you like tea? You can drink a variety of teas or just add lemon/lime to your water. I add lime to mine when it gets boring. Have you tried to cook veggies in a variety of ways? Another thing you could do is what I do to my kid...he hates vegetables, but what he doesn't realize is that they are in his brownies, his cookies, and his fruit juice. I sneek them in WHERE EVER I can...check out the book, Sneaky Chef...I got it at the library. It may help.

Pay for at least one, best bet 3.. You don't want to use the machine wrong and get hurt. Don't let anyone judge you...you are trying and doing what is best for you...that is what matters. :-)

Katie---There are times when we all struggle. Know that you can do this. It is not and will not be easy, but you can do it!

I know how hard it is to get back on that wagon, I'll let the ladder down to help you climb back on. But one day I may need you to lower the ladder for me.

You're right, it's not healthy to keep emotions bottled up. Vent when you need to. Then get up and do the positive things you've done to lose the weight you've already lost. I wish you luck on your journey.

Oh girl do I get you!!!! My falls are like roller coasters that go up and down, up and down, and then just keep going down!!!!!! Whine away!!! haha It helps to whine and vent because it releases negative energy inside of you that is calling on the binges. You don't need to make excuses for yourself, just say "hey, oops, I will try again." Remember, Edison took 1000 times to get the light bulb right!! Keep your chin up.
