Getting sick of my usual, which is oatmeal with 1/2 scoop of chocolate protein or 1/2 a tablespoon of peanut butter. Any suggestions, anyone? Thanks! :)

That sounds yummy haven't tried that yet. I ususally do 1/2 an apple cut up (granny smith is good) with a dash of cinnamon, and if you like a few slices of almonds on top. I got the recipe from a Zone cookbook. the almonds are good fat, carbs in the apple, cinnamon isgood for you, It reminds me of warm apple pie. I really like it. Sometimes I will add a TBS or 2 of plain low or non fat yogurt for creaminess.

    enjoy

I don't think I could ever get bored eating oatmeal like that. I'm plain jane with my oatmeal. Just water, oatmeal, and maybe a dash of splenda or sucralose of choice for taste. Once in a while I will toss in a scoop of protein powder.
  • I tried steel cut oats...I make enough for 3 or 4 days. Then I add 2 tsp of pecans, some brown sugar, a splash of non fat mild and some cinnamon. I am hoping though that this is right under 300 calories.

I add ground flax (4 tbsp so it needs an extra 1/2 cup water), lots of ground ginger, and sweeten with xylitol!
  • Defrost some frozen berries and flaxseed!! My fav way.

    Brown Sugar! Huge weakness.
I'm going to have to try some of these other ideas. They sound so good (and better for me than brown sugar ;))

I put in half a banana, brown sugar, cinnamon and ground flax seeds. Yum yum! Sometimes I use half an apple or raisins instead of the banana.

I have oatmeal every morning with a splash of milk and two teaspoons of light brown sugar. Something just occurred to me, though, as I have some pumpkin puree in the fridge--what if I added some of that to my oatmeal with some pumpkin pie spice? The additional calories would be negligible, and the flavor could be really good. I'm going to try it in the morning.
  • I use a Cooking Light recipe for Baked Oatmeal. I leave mine in the oven about 5-10 minutes longer than the recipe says and it is SO good! Kinda tastes like an oatmeal cookie...YUM!!!

I'd be really curious to hear how that goes. I have mine with two teaspoons of agave nectar and a dash of salt (190 calories total), but I'm always looking for something new.

    Try this recipe:
    Banana Bread Oatmeal

    3 cups skim milk
    3 Tbsp brown sugar
    1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
    1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
    1/4 tsp salt (optional)
2 cups quick or old fashioned oats
2 medium ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
2 to 3 Tbsp coarsely chopped toasted pecans (I omiitted)

Optional toppings: vanilla fat-free yogurt, banana slices, pecan halves, cinnamon or whatever you like

    1. Bring milk, brown sugar, spices and salt, if desired to a gentle goil in med saucepan (watch carefully). Stir in oats. Return to a boil; reduce heat to medium. Cook 1 minute for quick oats, 5 minutes for old fashioned oats or until most of liquid is absorbed, stirring occasionally.

    2. Remove oatmeal from heat. Stir in mashed bananas and pecans. Spoon oatmeal into 4 cereal bowls. Top with yogurt, sliced bananas and pecan halves if desired.

    Nutritional Info (without pecans or toppings): Cals - 306, Carbs - 60, Fat - 3, Protein - 13, Fiber - 6, Sodium - 94

    So yum!!!

I add any of the following:
    Frozen berries.
    Banana and cinnamon.
    Banana and chopped walnuts.
    Diced mango.
    Cinnamon and sultanas.
    Sultanas and chopped dried apricots.
    Grated apple.
    Grated carrot and nutmeg.
    Grated pear.
    Stewed apple.
    Cinnamon and brown sugar.
    Tinned pear and peach mix.
... or just a splash of milk or a spoonful of non-fat yoghurt.

Usually, though, it's either banana or berries.

I prepare it at night and have it cold in the morning.
I just mix these together at night and it's ready for breakfast.

    1 cup of oatmeal
    1 cup of almond milk
    2 tbsp honey
    Dash of cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • frozen berries or preserves, light whipped cream, walnuts, trail mix, almonds, raisins, craisins, bananas, yogurt, nutella, omg the possibilities are endless! :0)

I cook mine with a little salt and then add maple syrup.

I have mine very similarly - I substitute a teaspoon of manuka honey for the maple syrup (although I have had them with maple syrup before - I just have manuka honey at home I need to finish).
  • this morning I chopped up a banana to stick in mine
