Having Running Issues. Need Help.

I've never been much of a runner, but I started getting into it this summer. I actually really enjoy it. I've been taking it slow. I typically run a 12 minute mile (or slightly faster), and I've worked up to 2.25 consistent miles.
HOWEVER...
I have an old injury that I think might be acting up. I broke my ankle as a teen, and it didn't heal correctly. My right foot "duck foots" out farther than it should naturally. It think that this might be causing tenderness on the inside of my right ankle/lower leg. There's a little viable swelling, and it feels like a bruise to touch it, but there is no visible discoloration. It doesn't hurt anywhere else, and it doesn't hurt to walk, but typically hurts after mile 2 of running.
I ice it nightly and take Ibuprofen for the swelling, but I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a technique I could try, or maybe some sort of wrap or brace that I could try. I really, REALLY don't want to have to give up on running.
Thanks!

It's hard to know just what's going on- I would suggest going to see a physiotherapist who can look at your gait and where you are getting pain. It might be that you need to stretch more, or orthotics might help to improve your foot posture or you might need to strengthen up some specific muscles to help with the imbalance. Or different shoes might help too.... better to get aprofessional who can see exactly what's happening.
Well done on your running, I hope you can get the ankle sorted out.0 -
Try a doctor!!! Definitely go to a chiropractor or physical therapist. You don't want to keep running on it if you've done something to your ankle or re-injured it.0

I agree that you might be able to get shoes that help - but definitely get some professional medical advice.0

I would definitely have someone look at your gait...and get the correct shoe for the way you run...and then if that does not help, I would see your doctor (or an orthopedic specialist) to make sure there is not something more serious going on (maybe even have some x-rays)!
Good luck...hope you feel better soon!!!!!0
