Are you a website/database genius?

Hi
Is anyone out there a website and/or database genius?
I work with databases and have dabbled in websites however now want to set one up myself and don't know where to start and don't think I understand some of the fundamentals.
If anyone out there understands these things and doesn't mind sharing a bit of their knowledge it would be much appreciated (like where to start for instance!)
Thanks

Well it depends, I'm a software consultant so I have a fair amount of knowledge about databases and web development. So how may I be of assistance?0

Ok, Hopefully i'm going to ask the right questions:
Do I start with the database first then work on making it available through a website or is there some specific platform I should be developing on that is web compatible? For example would Access be the wrong way to go database wise and if so what would you recommend I use?
Then once i've started to develop the database and want to work on making it available to others over the web would I be better off going for a hosted site so that I can rely on someone else to deal with any space issues there may be depending on how big the db grows?
There'll probably be more questions but I'm just trying to get my head round how to start at the moment.
Thanks for any help you can give!!0 -

Well Access is more for a small portable desktop application, would rather look into using MySQL or SQL Server if is served based...there are others as well.
Well best is to have it hosted and you will pay for any additional space once it starts to grow.0 -
Ok thanks, I'll do some research into these.
And I am having more training in Dreamweaver soon so hopefully that will help a lot!
Thanks again - might come back with more questions as I get going0
