Good morning friends-
I've been struggling with staying full! Well, I should say that in order to stay full, I go to the same foods every time- nuts or a half a deli flat roll with some Better 'N Peanut Butter on it. Yesterday, I managed to finish well under my calorie goal, but two servings of baby carrots in one sitting were involved in that venture, and I have to say, I don't know if I can live like that!
My main question is- do you think there is any wisdom in choosing snacks with a BIG flavor (for instance, maybe the Rosemary and Olive Oil Triscuits) in order to trick the mouth/stomach into feeling more full?
Also, are there snacks I'm missing? Finally, just to make this even more complicated- I'm afraid that in trying to not be so hungry all of the time, I'm choosing only protein, dairy, etc. to fill my stomach up and therefore not getting the necessary fruits/vegetables I need during the day.

I have eaten for a while Fiber One bars, they have stuff in them to help you feel full and the fiber helps too.0

fruit i love it bananas apples pears anything you like they low in fat but do count the calories it may be fruit but it still has calorific value. apple are good as they have fibre in them0

I'd be very curious to know what other things you eat. It might not have anything to do with the choice of snacks. Maybe you are not getting enough food/nutrition/filling otherwise. What sorts of things to you eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?0

Hi Emily, how long have you been on your diet for? I also found that I was very hungry most of the day and that I could not imagine living like that ! I tried lots of different things but after a few weeks I found that my body just adjusted to the smaller portions I was eating and the fewer calories it was getting and the hunger went away. I no longer have to worry about the snack I would need to get me through the night!
I do find if I am going to excercise then I will blend 100g strwberries or any berries with 15m peanut butter 25g sunflower seeds 100ml skimmed milk. I take that half hour before a run and it gives me tons of energy.
I am no expert but it's working for me. I have lost 15 pounds in 5 weeks.
The hunger will go away !! Good luck.

Instead of eating the carrots raw you can marinate and roast them. With or without olive oil even!
You can also roast chickpeas until they're crunchy like corn 'nuts' and flavor them however you like. I like them spicy or agave-mustard style0 -
How about doing an apple with the peanut butter? You get your fruit/fiber and some good fat/protein to help you feel full longer. Agree that we need to see your diary to know what you're eating the rest of the day. Try to get a good mix of protein/fat/carb at each meal/snack. Have some protein in a salad for lunch or dinner. I find that I generally eat the same stuff every day for breakfast, lunch and snacks but dinner is different everyday and I'm not hungry or deprived. Drink a ton of water too, it's amazing how we often think we're hungry but truly, we're just thirsty!0

I have a very good recipe for homemade granola bars. I load them up with fruit, because I have trouble getting enough fruit in my diet. They are really delicious!0

I've been officially back on the diet for about two weeks. You're probably right- it's just a matter of adjusting. My mom, a dietician, always says, "Sometimes, when you're trying to lose weight, you're just going to be hungry."
I think part of the problem is that I rely too much on snacks, like we said- I live with a very handsome but picky eater (haha), so instead of changing the meals I just go without some of the items, since there are things he won't eat. For instance- dinner last night was salad, rice, and fish. I should have made wild rice for myself and roasted some carrots, like suggested, but instead I just didn't eat the rice (the 190 calories for 1/4 cup and no nutritional value....I'd rather have two beers!), and guess what, I was hungry later!
I love the idea of the apple and peanut butter- it's like the bread and peanut butter except with a fruit instead.

I have to eat every 3 or 4 hours so try to pick good snacks. One of my favorites that is very filling (for me anyway) is a serving of Triscuits (Fire Roasted Tomato is my favorite) or Wheat Thins (not as filling though) and a Laughing Cow cheese wedge. An apple & peanut butter is another good one, as well as popcorn - as long as it's not swimming in butter.0

THAT is a good idea, too! It kind of goes with what I was thinking before- the whole "big flavor" thing maybe tricking your body (mind?) into feeling satisfied without stuffing yourself. Have I heard that theory before or did I make it up? Both are possible!0

In the spirit of working on meals: lunch today was an egg scrambled with two slices of (low sodium!) turkey bacon, a chopped yellow pepper, cayenne and cumin; this business was served on two Mission low-carb whole wheat tortillas with a serving of roasted tomato salsa on top. Needed more cayenne (read: salt), but it was SUPER filling.... slowly but surely, getting there!0
