I've noticed in several workouts: yoga, 30DS and attempts at running that I have a very sensitive lower back. I feel like I have no power here and laying to do crunches or yoga is painful and uncomfortable.

Does anyone have tips or advice on how to strengthen my lower back and gain more support?

    Inverted raises. Basically reverse situps.

Make sure you stretch your lower back well. Injury to the back can and will put you out of action for a long time.

I have got a chronic bad back - best thing for me has been to join Pilates - you need to effectively use your stomach / ab muscles to protect your back - cant recommend it highly enough.

I have a squished disc in my lower back, chiro treatments did nothing. What has really helped is doing Bodypump a couple times per week. (It's a full-body strength-training class). There is a back segment and you are still working the core during the rest of the hour-long class as well. Plus, it's lots of fun!

This is actually part of the ab workout in 30DS. I like these and supermans, I find they are easy to do but painful for the first one or two.

Pilates definitely helps. But also the "swimmer" yoga move as well. It may be uncomfortable to do at first.
