Best thing you can do is cut the fat in your diet! (saturated and trans particularly)0

I do crunches (100), sit ups holding an 8 lb medicine ball on my chest (50), and crossover knee raises holding the medicine ball in front of me (3 set of 10 for each leg). I do them everyday.0

Abs are made in the kitchen not in the gym. That being said I work abs twice/week, more for core strength than a 6 pack, as working abs will do very little to get them ripped.0

Abs are like any other muscle and should not be worked everyday, they need rest as the muscles get stronger during the rest period, not the during the workout.0 -

ditto. also, I'm now a firm believer that none of us can spot reduce. I think we all have abs. they are hidden behind layers of fat. we have to burn fat to uncover the abs. you burn fat through creating a caloric deficit. your body will dictate where you burn fat.0 -
Posting for a friend who is currently grounded from forums, I clearly need to take lessons. :
for me, its been cleaner eating and I (usually) work out between 5-6 days a week, abs every other day - and I like to do my crunch/push up challenge at least once a week or so.0 -
it depends what you are going for. Not that i have excellent abs, but i have seen my waist measurement go UP from too much ab exercise. They say abs are made in the kitchen- basically, for women at least, or for me, the only way i'll ever have a nice 6 pack is if my body fat % goes so low that i don't have a layer between my muscle and my skin down there. I've found HIIT to be helpful in lowering my body fat %...as well as the usual calorie counting and lowish carb lifestyle. Not that I have all the answers because I'm still about 10 lbs from having the look I want. Still....I tried stomache exercises until i was blue in the face and they can be overdone for us ladies. That's my point.
On the other hand, I want a strong core, but I think I have one (I can take full force punches to the gut so I think my muscles are fine). I do the situps in 30DS and i'll do chin ups and then while my chin is over the bar, pull my knees up to my chest and twist to the side. I don't know what you call that, but it definitely gets those abs. I only do about 3 sets of 3 chin ups.
I'd like to find the balance because obviously we shouldn't ignore our core, but I'd like to have a female figure when it's all said and done with some shape to it and i find that the waist line won't go under 27" because it's all muscle (even though the figure I want would be more like a 25" waist).0 -
We all know we have to eat better. I've done several workouts including 6 week 6 pack but I just started Bob Harper Totally Ripped Core and I feel my abs more the next day than with any other workout. It is a 50 minute workout and starts easy enough but the last 15 minutes are an ab killer.
Good Luck!
Edit: oh and I just started doing inverted crunches on my inversion table. I set it for about an inch shorter than I actually am so the board doesn't swing up and I do crunches hanging from my ankles. Totally feel that too.0 -
I don't own any abs, so I have nothing to contribute.....unless abs stands for "Ack! Belly's Smushy".0

It is working beautifully for me. But I do understand your point.0
