Does anyone take this as a supplement?

I have read that it MAY help with diabetes and helps to reduce cravings. Also saw that there were studies indicating it can be used to treat depression. My husband bought it when he was working out saying it increased metabolism. I tried it yesterday and today and I am definitely not as hungry and felt like I could work out harder (but maybe that is just a natural thing from the three weeks of diet and exercise).

Being that I am pre-diabetic and that I also have a terrible time losing even one pound despite much effort, I am interested to see if this will help me. I am also interested to hear of anyone else's results.

Thanks!

I take chromium picolinate because I had also heard about the increased metabolism....

Cinnamon (which can be purchased as a supplement as well) is excellent for helping blood sugar.

I spent a lot of time researching chromium in school. I also took it myself at that time, because of the things I'd read. I was convinced at that time that it was 'working' - I lost about 15 lbs and was down to the weight I am right now, though of course also with exercise and diet change. Unfortunately that weight didn't stay off  and when I started on here, I was at the same weight, and lost it (again!!) without taking chromium....so that's my own anecdotal experience!

My degree's about eight years old now so I don't know what current research might say, but there was interesting support for it for diabetics, for sure.

    That's interesting about cinnamin!!
  • I took chromium for about a month and it REALLY helps regulate insulin.
I lost all need to binge on sugar and I didn't even really notice it but I was craving more savoury (real) foods rather than sweet.
The effect stops after a month or so- meaning that your body will naturally stop craving sugar after a month of training it to be off simple sugars so I don't take it anymore. But I truly noticed a difference and would recommend it.

A pilot study of chromium picolinate for weight loss.

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20192914

    CONCLUSIONS:

Supplementation of 1000 microg of chromium picolinate alone, and in combination with nutritional education, did not affect weight loss in this population of overweight adults. Response to chromium did not vary with central adiposity.
