I need help. I am trying to lose some weight here, but I am at a loss for what exercises I need to do. I am a college student, and have very little time between school and work to actually go to the rec center and work out. I do enjoy walking, however I live in Ohio, and it's about 17 degrees outside and I'm not too into walking outside when it's that cold! I am thinking about purchasing some exercise DVD's to do at home on my own time. Do you think this is a good route to go? I found myself getting bored at the rec center too, so I think I need something new to keep me interested and on track. If you know of any good DVD's, I'd love to know what they are and what you like about them so I can decide what to get. Thanks!

Oh, and if you have any good ideas for other forms of exercise, feel free to send them my way. :)

  • I mostly use DVD's because I cannot do a whole lot of high impact cardio. The ones that I really use almost daily are Leslie's Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds DVD's. She has several ranging from 1 mile walks with some strength boosters up to 5 to 6 mile walks. I also love her 5 day slim down and her 5 day workout DVD's which give you a different routine each day to mix things up. I also have Jillian Michael's 30 day Shred which incorporates strength training, cardio, and some ab workouts which is really great. It is only a 20 min video and can be done everyday. I have lost weight with all of this and do not seem to get bored as long as I continue to mix them up and do not do the same routine for over two weeks. Like some days I will do a 2 mile walk and when I have more time I will do the 5 mile walk. It is really all about how you are wanting to exercise. I also just walk very fast around my house some days just to get in extra steps during commercial breaks or while I am waiting for laundry, etc. It helps break up the monotony instead of just sitting on my rear. You can usually look at your local library and they may have a few that you can check out before you actual buy them to ensure that you will like them and use them. I also like a few of the Prevention workouts which usually vary at a rate for 4.5 mph which is a pretty brisk pace for beginners to intermediate exercisers. I hope this helps and happy exercising!!
