Hey guys,
So I did a little experiment and I found that working out slower but at a higher level (slow at level 20 on the treadmill or elliptical) I feel i get a better work out. I use to be one of those people who thought if I went fast it means i am doing great.... especially when I look around the gym and see I am one of the ones that is going fast. But my body feels better when I go slowly. So what do you guys think.... do you go fast or slow?

I do both. I found that intervals work best for me.
  • I go fast on a high level, but that's a personal thing. If I go slow, I get bored. So I REALLY like to challenge myself. Like on the treadmill, I go at a regular pace, but every 5 mins I do a 1 min uphill sprint. So it just depends.

The MOST important thing is to keep your body guessing. Don't do the same thing every time, try intervals where you change speeds one day, or change intensity, or change incline... If you're body is kept guessing, you'll see results. :)

i also do a slower pace with more resistance... i feel like i'm getting a better workout AND i can spend more time on the elliptical if i pace myself. however, i do know that if i were to pick up my pace a bit from time to time that my cardiovascular system would get a MUCH better workout than it does right now! i'm currently focused on muscle tone and losing a bit of weight and then once i'm closer to my goal i'm gonna try to step it up a bit to improve the health of my heart and lungs.

I could be wrong about this but I think the slower pace/higher resistance is a better fat burner whereas the faster pace is a better cardio work out for your heart and lungs. Anyway, I do both and lots of interval training as well, keeps things interesting! :)
