How do you know what your target heart rate should be when exercising and how do you calculate it during exercise if you don't have a HRM?

220-your age=?
? x .75= your rough heart rate
That is the formula my trainer gave me...this is around the number you want to stay throughout your entire workout...0 -
So if I'm 42 years old it would be 133? 220-42=178x.75=133
Is this correct?
