so i have been living this new life style for 13 months, eating healthy watching calories and what i like to call exercise. jogging/walking, biking and some light free weights. im pretty proud of myself and like to call myself healthy and semi fit

well i got pilates dvd's for christmas and a new mat, so yesterday i did one of the dvd's, and i have to admit it was harder than i thought it would be. but i enjoyed it and im sore today which means i did something right. right?

my issue is my talibone while doing the roling in a ball thing my tailbone hurt to bad to really try to do it, is this normal? is it something i will get use to in time?

dont get me wrong i tried it i couldnt really do it, but i tried.

Good for you! I LOVE pilates (and what it does for my body!). As far as your tailbone...I have broke mine in the past; therefore, some of the moves are painful for me too:tongue:

I hate the rolling like a ball... You will get used to the pain but thats pretty much it! Are you doing winsor pilates?
  • Hmm.. is your mat nice and thick? Getting a thicker mat or putting the one you have on top of a rug or carpet while you work out could help, maybe. I've found that doing Pilates makes my abs feel firmer and stronger much faster than doing regular crunches and whatnot, and if you keep up with it it starts feeling a lot easier before you know it.
  • I'm glad to hear other people have the tailbone issue when rolling too! I use 2 mats if I'm not on carpet.

When I go to pilates class at the gym we always use a thick foam mat underneath the thin yoga mat for that exact reason. It's great that you're doing so well with your new lifestyle though! Keep up the good work :flowerforyou:
  • It is my belief that any new work out is going to take our body time to getting use to because our body needs time to adjust. We have some muscles in our body that haven’t really been used or stretched out and when we begin a new workout we will fill it...

I have a few videos myself. I have noticed the more I do them the more flexible I get. The more flexible the less pain. If you are not sure about the pain you are experiencing or if it continues you can always ask your doctor. Either way, has fun doing them.

thank you, i actually took a throw rug and put it under my mat, i guess it helped a little. i have hard wood floors so maybe i will get a second mat.

i got 2 giam pilates, 1 is cardio pilates the other says just pilates. i really did enjoy it and have been looking forward to trying it, i will definatley keep at it.

im glad im not the only one with the issue, its always nice to know your not alone.

I was in a very intense theater program, which included a pilates workout and I found if my body was cold or not warmed up enough, my bones hurt when they pushed against the floor. I suggest making sure you are pumped before starting the tape, as well as the previously suggested advice of getting a thicker mat or putting two together.
