When I choose a regular type of egg in the food diary it says 70 cal but if I choose hard-boiled egg it's 200 cal... why is that?

it must be the serving size or preparation. an egg is an egg no matter how it's prepared.

Is it basing the calories on weight? Because, I'm guessing, that a hard boiled egg will weigh more than an unboiled one.
Or you could have found an inaccurate entry. I have boiled eggs every morning and they certainly don't contain 200 cals each. 100 I can accept but not 200.
Oh and 70 cals for an egg are the small ones. A medium/large/extra large will range from 80 to 150 cals.

I think you may have accidently choosen something else possibly a deviled egg? I added hard boil egg egg white only it was 17 calories and with yolk was 78 calories.

How would an egg gain weight whilst boiling?!

because it's denser? I don't know. Its just a guess. I just made it up  but 200 cals is still to much for an egg

an egg is an egg. Depending on the size of the egg, it should range from 55 to 80 calories per egg.
  • actually eggs do have a higher calorie count when they are cooked versus when they are raw. It's because there are certain proteins in eggs that aren't available raw, but when cooked become available as usable protein and thus, calories. Depending on how you cook the egg, the calorie count varies a bit. But, a hardboiled egg is still a good, healthy snack! 200 calories can't be for one egg though...make sure you are aware of the size of the egg, and how many eggs the serving is :)

Make sure it's a chicken egg. Sounds like an ostrich to me.

This one? Eggs - Hard-boiled (whole egg) says 211 calories for 1 cup.

You have to be very careful when using food items that others have put in the database. When I have a hard boiled egg, I just use the raw large egg item in the database. An egg is an egg, raw or heated up.
