Keep at it. You're going to have to make this sustainable. Push yourself a bit each time, whether its 5 minutes longer, 1 km/1 mile longer or up a few levels. When you're consistently working out try adding extra days or 2 workouts a day. Do you have an iPhone/ there is a great app built in (I think you can get it on iPods too) called Nike + It's great if your ellipitical is compatible as it tracks all the data from your workout so you can upload it (for free!) to nike running /nike+ In a year from workouts that I've recorded (so not thte ones when I'm abroad or where gym eqpt not compatible or other technical fault!) I've burned OVER 40,000 kCal and "run" (running outdoors, treadmill and elliptical ) about 570Km!

May I suggest you do some treadmill too if you have access to it. Cross training and impact sport is essential. Running will help build strength in your lower limbs and will use joint micro stabiliser muscles too which means your joints should get healthier and stronger too as well as your bones.

What is the reason your elbow is as you so eloquently (lol!) say "bummed?

Can you use light weights or a resistance band to do arm workouts?
