Just like turning the clocks back for daylight savings time those of us who live in cold climates should start transitioning to our cold weather fitness routines. If you intend to walk/run outside during the winter make sure you have the proper gear ready. If you are transitioing from an outdoor activity to an indoors just start now, don't want till the white stuff starts to fly. Go get that membership at the pool, gym, or yoga studio. Dust off you indoor fitness equipment and start incorporating that into your routine now.

We all know how easy it is to make excuses and we don't want to lose weeks of weight loss (or worse go in the other direction) because we dragged our feet on transitioning. With the busy holiday season approaching establish your routine now. This year let's make our News Years resolution to continue our progress and not to have to start all over again.

It's important to increase your sexual activity during the colder months, as this will provide much needed exercise to offset the holiday foods you will be presented with.

I am really cheap. So I just keep my thermostat at around 55 (Farenheit) and then it doesn't matter that I'm exercising less: I shiver it off.

Great reminder! For those of us who live in warmer climates, this is the time we can start to trade the treadmill and our very early morning runs for a run in the sunshine. I'm amped!

I am really worried about this to be honest. I have lived in WI my entire life and I have HATED winter with a passion the entire time. I NEVER ever ever ever go outside in the winter. I go from the house to the car. From the car to a building. That is it. I watch my kids play outside through the window. I hate cold THAT much. Now we have a dog. And she needs to go on at least 2 walks a day, the morning one is my job 100% of the time, and the night one I do about 75% of the time. I am so dreading winter. I don't own anything other than a winter jacket. Walking the dog is 90% of my exercise. So I know I need to do it, I'm just not sure what to wear. I mean, what do you wear out there when it is 20 below? How can I walk with big heavy boots on?

Geez you would think I lived in California all my life and this is my first winter or something. LOL

    Sarah,

For one don't worry about pace. Your body is going to be burning more calories in order to keep you warm. This was the point of my post. You know you need to excercise yourself and your dog. Start eliminating potential excuses now. Try to stop thinking of it negatively and put a positive spin on it. Change your frame of reference on the whole issue. When you are out there think how good your are going to look once spring rolls around. Start asking clerks at the shoe store what the recommend for a boot to keep your feet warm yet will be good for walking for excercise. Smart wool socks, thermal underwear, etc. Start collecting your warm weather gear. If money is an issue start poking around Goodwill's etc. It is 90% mental. You know what you don't like about the winter, start trying to find and create the things you do like about it. Keep moving!
