Good job working out today. Today's the first step! As for the gym, see if you can talk to a trainer to set up a mini-training session. They can walk you through the equiptment and exercises.

I am a member of the Y and they have deals on training sessions. You may need 2-3 sessions to get the feel of the best work out for you.

Good luck on your journey and feel free to friend me!

That first time is the hardest! But you can do it! I didn't know what to do when I first started so I asked one of the track personnel and they got me started on the treadmill, which is what I had requested. I got bored with that real quick, moved on to the cycle and got bored again. I had a personal training session for an hour and he showed me around the gym and made suggestions on what to do. When it all came down to it though, I decided I would rather be bossed around. I only take fitness classes at my gym now, BOSU on Monday, Yoga and then Step Class on Tuesday, Core and More on Wednesday, Pilates Reformer on Friday and Step class on Saturday morning. It seems to be a well rounded program, plenty of strengh, plenty of cardio. I'm not losing weight, but I'm not really trying either and I eat whatevr I want in moderation. That's what gets me to the gym, the ability to eat what I want, that and cute workout clothes like the new Under Armour outfit I'll be rocking at Core and More later. Ask for help, that's probably the best advice I can give, they're there for a reason and should be more than happy to help! Kettlebells seem to be very effective, I gave them a shot for awhile. Once again... got bored. :) I guess I'm just a class kind of girl!

I just looked at your post again and saw your weight loss goal and have this to add... a high energy Step class can burn around 500 calories in an hour. Zumba is supposed to be very effective too, but I've yet to try it and am pretty happy with my schedule so doubt that I do. The Step takes some getting used to the choreography, but as they told me at the beginning, just keep moving. It keeps getting easier every week, not the workout, you're sweating buckets, but keeping up with the moves gets easier which makes the workout the most effective. I wish you so much luck!

I agree with everyone, because really I think it's about finding a nice variety of things you like (or don't hate) because it will help you mentally and physically. My "standard" kind of workout is to do a warmup on a cardio machine, then do a round of weights (one body area per day, like core or upper body or lower body), then do my 'serious' cardio.

You should be able to Google up some weight routines, or just pick maybe 3 or 4 of the weight machines each day and do those. You can DEFINITELY ask the trainers or gym employees to show you how to use the machines, they will be happy to help you out.

Actually there are some good apps if you have an iPhone or a Droid that will have workouts for you, some including how-to videos.

Have fun and best of luck to you!

    Edited to add...and stretch!!!!!
