Oklahoma City just got a Whole Foods! What are your fav Whole Foods finds that I should go in search for that I never had access to at regular supermarkets?

Their meat selection is amazingly good. Unfortunately, it's also expensive. You can get some wonderful lean and quality cuts there.0

Yeah - but it is north side... :frown:
We need one down here for us south side folks! Maybe if they get enough business they will add another.0 -
They have the best lean meats. I'd just compare prices on some of their other items.0

Super AWESOME WHOLE FOODS MONEY SAVING TIP!!!!
... did I get your attention? I'm a whole foods fanatic... unless it's produce then I go to Trader's Joe....anyways!!
There is a bulk section that is usually tucked away in the medicine section... They will have things like fresh bulk vanilla beans and etc there. This is separate from the grains bulk section usually. Do not buy spices and etc til you look in that bulk section. A Vanilla Bean in the bulk section is around $1.50-2.00 a bean, if you buy it in a glass jar in the spice section it's 6.99 a bean. They have a ton of spices on bulk.
Also if it's like the one in Nebraska you can drink up to two glasses of wine while you shop.
Last piece of advice of item to try..... Bacon Chocolate Candy Bar Dark Milk Chocolate version. The bacon with the dark chocolate is very delicious!
Other items we get a lot is Black Forest Bacon and Veal from the meat department. It is pricey but the quality is usually higher. The 365 Organic store brand is usually priced competitively.0 -
Another tip for those people with Digestive issues or that have had their GAL BLADDERS removed.... I had a lot of problems when I first got my gal bladder removed on eating anything without major stomach problems. They have pills at whole foods called Digestive Select. It's an all natural bile extract pill that you take before a meal that helps with digestion. I was really really skeptical, but was amazed how well they worked.0

Justin's nut butter. Specifically the almond butter, but they are all delicious.0

The '365' brand is their 'store' brand and those products tend to be reasonably priced. Their almond milk is my bf's favorite, not so heavy and thick as the silk is. More like drinking...almondy milk!
They are a fun store because they have a WONDERFUL selection AND you can ask to taste anything seriously. Find a person who works there, tell him you want to taste anything and they will pop open a container and give you some to try. This is amazing at the cheese counter (yum) especially.
But because of the above 2 things, prices are a bit on the high side. I like shopping there anyhow but be prepared for some serious sticker shock.0 -
I buy all meat at Whole Foods because I feel a little better about the way that it was raised. Also, it's pretty sweet to have a butcher. He'll do things like debone the chicke for you at no extra cost or cut away the fat off beef before he weighs it.
Also, they make their own chicken sausage in house. So many varieties, so much yum.
I also buy kid-friendly cereal at Whole Foods. They have a bunch of brands with awesome animal pictures on the box and cereal like the stuff they see on commercials without ingredients that frighten me.
The Bulk Bin aisle is a wonderland. Dried mangos (no sugar added, but super sweet), dried cherries, spiced pecans... Pretty much everything is good and sampling is allowed.
And my nemesis: Vegan Chocolate Chip cookies from the bakery section. They are my kryptonite. From the meat suggestions above you can probably tell I'm not vegan. But these cookies are SO good.0 -
I get the grind-it-yourself honey-roasted peanut butter, and the almond and cashew nut butters are great too. They also have a great cheese selection and huge hunks of good quality chocolate. And their fresh guacamole is great, too.
Their produce is ridiculously overpriced, I go elsewhere for that.0 -
Their 365 brand (the Whole Foods generic, if you will) is really good and saves lots of $$.
Their bulk aisle is awesome. I buy beans , whole wheat pastry flour (which is hard for me to find), cous cous, etc all in bulk so I just get what I need. They have limited spices in bulk, which is great when you just need a little of something for one recipe. Their frozen veg (365 brand) is pretty cheap. I love love love their breads/bakery. The 365 soft tortillas (refrigerated section) are also good. They also have some interesting produce items hard to find elsewhere, like lemongrass.
The people who call it "Whole Paycheck" are usually the ones who get sucked into buying their hot food bar stuff or don't bother getting the Whole Food's house brand.0 -
Bulk isle, meat, cheese, nut butter, chocolate...GOT IT!
Thanks guys!

it will not be like that because its Oklahoma and Oklahoma just can't be that cool! We can't buy wine in our grocery stores, let alone drink it!!0 -

Parts of Oklahoma are that cool... check out Girls Gone Wine. I know, I know - it is not a grocery store - but it is a winery with a cute, CUTE shop and you can drink wine as long as you like. It is a bit of a drive from central OK though. (Sorry for the hijack!)0
