Which scale is best? Digital or regular?

Digital scales tend to be more accurate, but you still get what you pay for. If you don't spend a little money and just buy the cheapest scale, don't expect it to be very reliable.0

The one that shows the lowest weight, of course! Okay, that's just my opinion. I started this with a recently purchased dial scale that belongs to my live-in mother-in-law. I bought a digital scale a few weeks later because I wanted to see ounces. Problem is, the scales don't show the same weight, although they're both showing weight loss. Since the new scale weighs a couple of pounds heavier, I decided to stick with the dial scale for my check-ins. Can you blame me? I do refer to the body fat and hydration levels on the new scale, but I don't like that the body fat level is higher than the body fat measurement calculators I've come across online. That said, just because I don't like what it tells me doesn't mean I won't use it to help track my progress. I don't think it matters what kind of scale we use as long as it's in the ballpark and shows our progress.0

For me, I find that digital scales aren't as accurate. It doesn't matter what brand, how much they cost or how new the batteries are in them - I've found that I can step on it, get a weight, step off, step back on and get a different weight.
I much prefer an analog scale. I didn't spend a lot on mine and I find it to be consistent - I can step on and off as many times as I want and it always comes back with the same number.
I'll never use a digital scale again.0 -
I use a good ole dial scale it's what I got and it shows my consistent weight loss. I check it against the medical scale at work and it's pretty darn close. So I say the choice is yours. I just didn't see the point in putting out money if this ole thing is pretty accurate. I would much rather spend the money on some new clothes.0

My scales are pretty cheap analogue ones and they can go up and down by 4lbs or more depending on how I stand on them.
I just try and stand on them the same way every time and if it shows less, then that's a result. If they said 1.5 tons, then 1.4 tons next time I wouldn't care - there's been a loss and that shows I'm on the right track.
That said, there is an advantage to this - I don't sweat the small stuff, like ounces lost, and as they are so bad I only REALLY know I've lost weight when I get 7lbs or so lower than my previous weight. This means I don't focus on trivialities like a single lb, but instead focus on losing weight in "batches" of 7lbs... only then I can be sure I've lost it. This means I take a more long-term view of weight loss and compare weights on a fortnightly (or more!) basis rather than on a weekly one.
(I'd still like some accurate ones, though!).0 -
I have digital ones that show just one total weight and the body fat scales that give different figures for fat, water lean muscle mass etc.
The body fat scales are sometimes up to a stone (14lbs) lighter than the regular digital scales!.. and also tend to give a different weight even if you literally just stepped off then back on again.
The regular body fat scales tend to give the same weight each time (mine do anyway) so as I don't believe I'm only 10st 4 or whatever.. considering I was 12st 7 in june!) I tend to go with the regular digital scales for weigh-ins! I find I get less of a difference if I weigh on body fat scales in morning, as I get much lower numbers in evening on those and on regular digital scales its the other way around!
The body fat scales though did weigh me at 12st 3 first time I ever used them and I'm now getting weights in the 10st somethings and the numbers for body fat has gone down and lean muscle mass and water up (I was dehydrated to start with)... so as long as either one is showing a downward trend its ok with me!!!0 -
