A tiny bit of sweet chilli sauce goes a long way! I add it to loads of stuff to add a zing.

Fresh root ginger steamed to infuse, chillis, fresh rosemary, fresh thyme, lemon juice. Herbs in general, Balck pepper. But to be honest, after a while you start to appreciate the plain vegetables and they can be quite tasty on their own. I don't add anything to them at all now, but I steam turkey with thyme.rosemary/pepper/chilli etc. The aromas come off those and when combined with the veg when eating is enough flavour. Not everything has to have some "flavour" added to it. Enjoy the natural goodness and tastes and don't overcomplicate the palate!

I use this combination when i steam fish in a bamboo steamer on my wok:

    Into the wok put:

    Diced Ginger root
    Lemon juice
    Garlic
    Chilli
    Soy Sauce
    Water

Bring to boil and cover with the bamboo steamer.

Steam white fish with your choice of vegetables to your preference.

Remove the bamboo steamer and reduce the remaining steaming liquid for a tasty sauce.
  • last night I didnt want a high calorie dinner so I mixed a bag of steamed brocolli, carrot and corn with a tin of baked beans, a sprinkle of light cheese and chilli sauce... it was actually really good!! Could also use tuna maybe?

You'd be surprised how much a squirt of citrus can spice up a veggie. Example: Broccoli & lemon (& black pepper.)

Black pepper, lemon juice, there are a a bunch of Jamie Oliver grinder spices that are nice (thyme and lemon, and the szechuan spice are particularly good).

That said, you might just want to let your palate adjust. Steamed veg taste LOVELY if you don't overcook them. But the flavours are more subtle than a plate of steak or a chicken balti. If you just persist with it for a couple of weeks, I'm sure you'll find that you actually start to enjoy them for their own sake.
  • Does it HAVE to be steamed? Tossed in olive oil, a lot of veggies like broccoli or asparagus are AWESOME roasted.
