Annoying phone habits

So this morning I am home sick with laryngitis and my phone rings. I am not sure why I answered it but I whispered, "hello?" And the person on the other end was looking for a Nathan. No one in my family is named Nathan so I told them they must have the wrong number. Ok, no big deal right? But then they proceed to give me what I call the 20questions game. They say, "well is this 412.....????" I do not understand this. When I get a wrong number I feel so bad for bothering the person especially if they sound sick, I would just say sorry and hang up! Well, I did hang up on the person because I had already done more with my voice than I should have. But seriously, whats up with people who interogate(sp?) you when they have the wrong number? Anyone else have thoughts on this?

The most I will do if I dial a wrong number like that is apologize, and maybe, if I am sure I dialed the number correctly, verify the number with them. No 20 questions - just the one, and only after I apologize.

I think the person wanted to discover whether they had dialed incorrectly or had the wrong number in the first place. They probably wanted to make sure they didn't call you again if the number they had was wrong.

Must of been more of a collection type call for Nathan. Most collectors don't really care how you feel if they have the wrong number...or the right number they were given for that person...yada, yada...

Nope. South dakota actually:) 412 is just the prefix. We are so sparsely populated our entire state has the same area code:)

This made me laugh! I am in a better mood now:)
  • my thoughts?

First off, sounds like they don't like being WRONG about anything, including dialing a wrong number.

Secondly, not sure why you CONTINUED to engage in the conversation w/ them. I wouldn't have answered more than 2 more questions, then I'd have hung up on them.

Whoever this was MOST certainly isn't going to let YOU bother them all day........
haha...time to "hang" up the phone and get them outta your head- so they don't drive you mad

I got a call at work from someone asking for Tina, and when I said it wasn't me the guy said "Are you sure?"

Really? Make some new friends like this? :)
  • I get these all the time, I think i had the same telephone number as someone else, (is this possible)

I would always get calls saying ' sa malekum ' or whatever Indians say.

he would interrogate me to find mrs patel.... he wouldnt get off the line. I ended up asking his name, he said his name was mr patel. So i said mrs patel is probably at your house making poppadoms. and then i got my number changed.

I also get calls from some heir to the throne in the country of uganda lol and if i just give this person my bank details he will give me 1billion ungandan dollars.

    crazy !!!

isn't the area code for south dakota 605? or maybe you meant the prefix 412 is for the town, not the state? :)

    anyway, i agree with this:

"Prefix" means the "456" part. Not area code.

that's interesting. :) i live in an area that dials 10 digits all the time, but i never paid attention to what the seven numbers after the area code were called. i learned my one new thing today, so i should probably go take a nap. lol.

My list of 'annoying calls' is pretty long as I work as a receptionist and answer the incoming calls to the business.

Lately though, we've been getting a LOT of wrong number calls from people who are obviously getting post cards mailed to them offering free samples of face cream. (they are dialing a 9 in place of a 6 in the number-I've figured out.) Yeah, try arguing with a little old lady who is SURE she has the right number and wants her wrinkle cream sample! Annoying! I've hung up on many of them. Sure hope they ended up getting their free sample. haha
