How often do you "go"? HELP!!!

I have a question that I NEED to ask. I have been on a strict 1500 calorie diet for 13 days now. I am getting my 25-30g of fiber daily which is recommended for women with PCOS. However, my regularity has decreased quite a bit. I used to "go" at least once a day, sometimes 2 or 3 times. But since I have started this diet, I am "going" every 2-3 days. Has this happened to any of you?
(TMI, I know, but I NEEDED to ask) Please HELP me!!!

Replies

  • Sorry to be TMI as well..but I go about 3-4 times the whole day...I know everyone's digestive system works differently..but since you are only going every 2-3 times a day...that sounds like some problems. Are you getting enough water intake? And is your fiber intake through a pill or through fruits and veggies? You just want to make sure you are increasing your water intake and fruits/veggies/whole grain products to help get that digestive tract going..if you keep on having problems you may want to talk to your doctor.

Once or twice a day. Are you getting plenty of water? I used to be just every 2-3 days and once I started drinking a lot of water it made a huge difference.

It also happened to me, I go every 2 or 3 days too and I think thats one reason Im losing so slow, Its the meds Im on, because I eat a lot of fiber, I have to eat those "fiber one" bars they are good, but I dont think it is normal . You'd think we should be going everyday at least, Wait a little longer your body is trying to adjust to the diet change.

Are you well hydrated? What source is that fiber coming from? Fruits, veggies and whole grains or things like Fiber One bars or supplements?

It's not unusual or unhealthy to "go" only every few days, but since it's a significant change, you might want to talk to your doctor.
  • When I cannot hit my fiber mark through food, I put metamucil in my water. I have a no "white" rule in the house, so whole grain and whole wheat everything and we eat PLENTY of fruits and vegetables. Also, pop/soda is a MAJOR weakness for me so we only have water and milk in the house (sometimes juice if my husband wants some, but I have had ONLY water for these 13 days)
  • regular as clockwork for me ! :D

i can go 2-4 times a day... Im a machine. sometimes i go 6 times a day, but 4 of them times im just trying to get away from the kids lol

The cleaner I eat, the less I go. 1 small poop each day is probably the norm for me, but every other day is nothing unusual. I'll go 2x per day for 2-3 days following a bad cheat day... nevermind a cheat weekend.

You eat the right amount of calories, and make them be the calories your body needs then there is naturally going to be less waste.

This has not happened to me. I think it might be due to the organic strawberries I eat every night. It's like ...clock work now. :) Give it shot?

What you describe sounds like mild constipation, especially if accompanied by gas and cramping. Other than consulting a doctor, the simplest solution is to try a little sugar free metamucil. Remember though, laxatives are not good to use long term.

Try activia or take a probiotic once a day

I can completely understand your asking this question. Ive never been regular! I get about 40-50 g of fiber most days, drink water all day and workout like crazy. Its not uncommon for me to only go twice a week. People who havent experienced it doesnt realize how bad it can be! Ive tried supplements but they only cause a good deal of cramping with little results.
Recently through much prayer, It has gotten better. I feel it could be in part to the herbalife meal shakes ive been having daily. Who knows, but Its an answered prayer and I'll take it.
Im interested to see what people suggest too!

i have a hard time bn reg not even once a day! i know fiber is filling but for me its too bulky to digest well so im trying , key word, trying to eat more fruit n veggies n just exercising gets things moving too. Its hard but well worth that movement ha ha ! join the "movment" lol ! good luck!!
  • oddly enough, i'm just the opposite. i used to go 3-4 times a day, some days, keeping imodium in business... since i started this a few months ago, i'm a once a day'er. it's confusing to me.. i'm not used to this.. and i think that might be why my progress slowed down. kinda feeling a smidge 'backed up'

Do you also workout? An intensive cardio works for me, too. :) It's kind of gross but sometimes I have to jump out hte machine and go first. LOL

I have to agree! I've noticed that the healthier I eat the less I go! I remember asking a similar question though and the response was that my body is actually using what I'm putting in it. Last week I had to grab something quick before class and I ended up "splurging" and getting some french fries and the next day my body showed me it didn't need those! ;) I say as long as you're not uncomfortable and when you do go it passes easily you're body is just using all the good nutrients you're putting in it and producing less waste. I found it pretty odd that as I ate healthier and ate more fiber that I didn't go more often (or even as often) but I believe it's actually normal. HTH!

Foodluver27 ^^^ above pretty much covered it all. Water will help keep your system greased as will certain veggies and fruits. Also stay away from cheese as maybe if your having too much of it it may be constipating you.
  • I've never gone like normal people, but since I started this diet, I can't go at all. I take Dulcalax about 2 times a week just to make that happen. Except for morning coffee, I drink only water. Looking at your comments...I need to see a doctor quickly!

I don't have any advice because I haven't found the answer either. I get a lot of fiber, drink enough water, and even have my gallbladder out. I'm still irregular. *sigh*

Many doctors recommend Metamucil as a supplement, not a laxative. Mine did.
I've been taking it once a day for years, with water and juice in the morning.
It helps to keep things moving ;)
