What is the one thing you couldn't live without?

If you were told everything you had or owned would be ruined in a fire what would be the one thing, other than your family you would save?

  • I have a box that has picture and art work that my kids have made over the years. It is priceless and irreplaceable. I could get copies of photos from my mom to replace those but no one has the things in this box they are one of kind and definately my most prized possessions.

i have on cabinet full of stuff that I would want to save.
trophies from childhood, and a few pictures.

anything else, i wouldn't miss. just don't want to lose those memories.

Mine would be my cedar chest. For one I made it in shop class in high school, and two it's full of stuff basically from my life (pictures, trophies, medals...firsts) and now my son's life as well.

Honestly "stuff" doesn't mean much to me.

But I''d want to make sure my kids had warm clothes and I had my computer(photos).

I'd keep this halloween decoration my grandma gave me. Sounds weird, but she decorates for every holiday and Halloween is my favorite and she gave me her favorite decoration when I left for college a while back. It's on my bookcase right now :)

    Pictures.

  • I started a sort of keepsake box for my daughter (a few pics she's drawn, her letter welcoming her to preschool, the first little shirt they put on her in the hospital when she was born), that kind of stuff.

Since I consider my dog part of the family, I'll say the bag I keep with all the important stuff in it. Birth certificates, ss cards, pictures, etc... I learned the hard way after Katrina. That bag is the first non family member I grab.

Having been through a fire when I was in high school, I know the things I miss, even now:

    my diary
    pictures
    school papers and love letters

Nothing else in that house really mattered - and much of it was destroyed. (no one was home, Thank God.)

Now? I would grab photo albums and my hard-drive............the rest can go up in smoke!

Hmm I have to edit this because I guess since I gave birth to my son TECHNICALLY he is family.
Gotta go with the dog then. Even though he ate all of the damn oatmeal cookies.
