I have never taken my coffee's temperature, but when I get my morning 16 oz cup at the gas station, I have to microwave it when I get to work. Hot drinks/food should be HOT. Not take-the-skin-off-my-face hot, but hotter than lukewarm hot. My DH does not understand this; therefore we have to portion out leftovers onto plates before we reheat them. To me, iced coffee or barely warm coffee is undrinkable.

I can't stand my coffee below a certain temperature. Mind you, my sticky toffee pudding with custard HAS to be "burn your mouth" hot for it to be nice! the second it can stay on my tongue for more than a couple of seconds, the flavour is lost!
  • If I do not feel it making the trip from my throat to my stomach then it is not to my standards. ;)

I want it to blister the roof of my mouth it's so hot. No seriously, that's happened more than a few times.

I love coffee, but I am the opposite of picky. I'll usually make it super strong, and then add some tap water so I can drink it quicker. lol. And yes, if it's cold I just drop in an ice cube and call it "iced"... don't judge me.

But no sugar or milkfor me :drinker:

Um...I like dunkin donuts coffee...and it's really only good when it's fresh and brewed at inconceivably hot temperatures, however, I will only consume it at a warm to luke warm temperature, I have then put a few ice cubes in my hot coffee.

When I have a beverage, I'm thirsty, I don't take dainty girly sips, so I like it to be at a temperature that doesn't require maximum amount of drinking effort.

The appropriate temperature to serve coffee is considered 155º to 175º.

::Probes Dunkin Donuts Small Hot Blueberry Coffee (+1 packet equal) with kitchen thermometer::

    149.8º.

Yay, better get a move on! ::sips::

    OWWWW, MY EVERYTHINGGGGG.....

    FORGET THAT, DUDE.

Maybe 155-175 is true if you're going to add ice-cold cream or something but this is black. So I waited a few minutes and checked. It was 138.3º so I tried again. Still ouch!

    Stupid sensitive mouth parts!

Okay, waited another few minutes. The coffee is now just over 130º and is finally within the realm of just-barely-sippable. But I have to do that little-kid, air-infusey, slurpy thing. And the downside is that there's only like an 8º sweet-spot before it starts to get too cold!

It took 15 minutes in a 75º room with the lid tab open on the Dunkin Donuts paper cup to cool from 150º to 133.5º. For future reference. ;)

Who drinks their coffee that hot?!?! Come on, first-world chat with me for awhile.

    :drinker:

    Who takes their coffee's temperature?

yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking!

    :indifferent: My thoughts exactly.
  • I drink enough coffee to drown lesser women, and I like it almost room temperature. When I buy coffee at shops I request coffee I could take in a shot if the need was to arise. I think this comes from years of carrying my cup everywhere with me... eventually the temp cools and I am not one to waste a cup of joe!

I don't check the temperature of my coffee, but I do check my tea as it should be steeped as a certain temperature (depending on leaf type).

Usually steep around 180 degrees and it isn't drinkable till around 135.

Edited: who "brews" tea? Changed to steep.

In the UK a cup of tea is referred to as "a brew", i.e. "Oi geez! Fancy a brew?" See this for amusing observations of British tea drinking issues http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67SeoAWfN5Q&feature=related

LOL sorry McKay this made me laugh so hard. But you are so right (and anal) I hate getting scalding drinks from places, tea isn't so bad I tell them to leave room so I can add cold water after it stoops

And yes, this thermometer is brand new. I used it last night for the first time to make yogurt. lol

I have plans to molest all my food with it in the coming days.

Me at Tim Horton's Drive Thru:
"I'd like a large black coffee with one inch and ONLY one inch of ice in the bottom of the cup before you pour, please~"
Then I taste test it as soon as they hand it to me.

Really, everybody takes their coffee's temperature before they drink it- be it with a thermometer, their lips, or the inside of their mouth!

I don't like it steaming hot, nor watered down, so at home I put 'leftover' coffee into an ice cube tray and freeze coffee cubes. That way, when I'm in a hurry, I can drop in a cube or two to cool it down while still maintaining the perfect strength!

    @LaComadreja14:

Owwwwwie! Your poor face and insides!

Oh yea it was aweful.... furthermore I realized that I intended to answer your title question "OMG What Kind of Freak of Nature Does That?!" Annnd as usual I got wrapped up in telling the story and forgot, lol, the answer is my fiancee! The gulp that destroyed my insides and mouth is how hot he likes his coffee apparently because he drank it just after me, the whole thing.
How does he still have tastebuds?!
