Question re: lifting

I still have about 40 lbs to lose. I've been running 3x/week, and sometimes doing 30DS in between. I have been looking at Amazon reviews for The New Rules of Lifting for women after reading about it on here and am interested in maybe doing that program 3x per week, doing running 3x per week, and having 1 rest day. My question is, is it okay to start lifting when I still have so much to lose? I'm okay with dropping inches vs weight, I don't believe in being a slave to my scale....

why wouldn't it be okay? 40 lbs? I started lifting when I still had over 200lbs. to lose.0

Yes. Not lifitng earlier is actually my biggest weight loss regret. You might stall for a week with your weight due to lactic acid build up (I believe) but it shouldn't stall you in the longterm.0

lifting is lifting.....man or woman, more muscle means you burn more calories in every activity you do. I only lift, no cardio, and lose 1-2 lbs every week.............0

Not lifting while losing the 55 lbs I had to lose was the biggest mistake I made. I ended up with a mid range normal bmi and flabby as can be. Im now working on rebuilding.......0

Muscle burns fat, so build some muscle burn more fat.. a few articles support it aswell
I personally do a bit of cardio and muscle strengthening from weights to calisthenics. Mix it up give your muscles some confusion you should see some results GL0 -
LIFT!!! Lift lots and lots of heavy stuff!! I've been lifting during my entire weightloss and it's made it SO much easier. As you build more muscle you'll burn more calories at rest AND build the shape we all long for. Think toned arms and legs, tight stomach, perkier bewbs... LIFT LIFT LIFT LIFT!!! As of late I've gotten into a more power lifting style workout and I'm making TREMENDOUS strength gains as well as trimming body fat like crazy and feeling SO much better about my new body. DO IT. You won't regret it!

From the beggining of my weight loss I was lifting. I loved the idea that for every pound of muscle you burn x extra calories (I forgot the ratio)! While loosing weight you loose fat and muscle but what you really want to do is keep the muscle you have while loosing fat. It's really hard to gain muscle and loose fat at the same time and you don't want to loose the muscle that you have to try to gain it later when you reach your goal weight.
Resistance training can be done at home. Small dumbells and your own body weight can do wonders for you and help you loose inches.
Another great book (and also cheap) is "The Big Book of Exercises for Women". That's my $12 personal trainer through my journey. Check it out as well ;0)0
