logging food on here

I find it really frustrating logging food on here cos of the way the custom foods works. I can't understand why it won't let me put the exact grams of the item .. for example I wanted to log 36g of baby leaf greens.. it wont accept it as a serving it has to be 1/2 a cup cooked or something which is less accurate than an exact number.

I end up not bothering.. the one on calorie count is better cos you can either put in an value per 100g and it works it out for you or put in the exact grams... why can't this one do the same?

It seems a shame as the community is better and friendlier on here, but I can't add custom foods properly.

I seem to be always making my own recipes or just manipulating the tool so I get the closest result possible. Even then I don't take the calorie count as read and have in the back of my mind that its just a guide at the end of the day :)

I just logged exactly 36g of baby leaf greens as a test...took 2 seconds.

I should add - don't give up on it. Once you log for a little while it becomes easier and you learn your way around the database. A great feature MFP has is that it keeps a record of your foods so that you can quickly pick out foods you eat often.

how did you log it? I got message that the serving size wasn't right cos I had 36g instead of 1/2 a cup cooked which I had deleted.

I did a search for baby leaf greens - 4 or 5 choices came up. I randomly picked a brand and it had the option of logging in gms. Brand name doesnt matter in this case...as long as the brand is just greens - no dressing and such. Most of the choices there had the option of gms.

Oh shoot - you want to custom add...not choose something already there..let me check into that and I will message you.

Indeed. Most things have several entries. The good ones will have for example 1g, 100g, or one container full (400g). Others will have 1g, 100g, or one unit (i.e. chicken legs).

Just don't always go for the first one you see.

Yes, I just custom made one (didn't add it to the database) and I was able to choose 1gm as a serving and say how many gms were in the container. then I could choose 36 servings(gms). It was easy.

What did you put in the top box where it already says 'serving eg 1/2 a cup cooked' ?

Sometimes I will put in a guess or going 0.5 or 0.1 or something of the serving size. I don't measure stuff so it's never going to be 100% accurate!
I also don't really log salad items (green salad items) because they are so negligible in calorie amount.

I put 1 gm then put 100gm for total size
