How long does it set you back? (EG Pizza)

I have noticed that if I cave in and eat pizza, or brownies, or burgers, or something out that ISN't a salad with dressing and toppigs on the side...

It sets me back around 5 days if I eat properly afterward. How about you? Is there anything you avoid or have minimally on your eating plan that if you do eat it unplanned, it sets you back for a fairly predictable amount of time? The only thing I can see speeding up it going away is eating right, drinking ons of water... and exercising every day but 5 days seems like a long setback to me to re-lose what I lost last week.

  • Omgosh.. the same thing is happening to me!! I get more and more discouraged when I look at the scale.. eating something semi unhealthy just one day makes me gain like 4 pounds the next.. It is the most frasturating thing ever!
  • Ya, it was our thanksgiving (Canada) last weekend and I haven't lost AT ALL this week :( So frusterating!!!! We had our turkey dinner on Monday and I've worked out and been just under my calories every day this week - still no movement!!!!! Darn turkey! (actually it was the stuffing, mashed potatoes and pie that did it!!! LOL)
  • I just started and I've had a couple slices of pizza and wings. I'm not going to beat myself up about it because I know this is a lifestyle change so it will take some time.

Weight loss is a work in progress, no need to feel bad about it.

It sounds like to me you are pretty sensitive to carbs (I am) I really have to watch my simple carbs or I don't lose..... ie. alcohol, I don't lose if I drink any alcohol (although I still do) or white potatoes. I've just decided potatoes will never be a big part of my diet again. I don't mind giving up potatoes and regular pasta for a beer ;)

Yeah, that's pretty normal when I have my pig out days. It's all that dang sodium and loading up on carbs like a mad woman. I try not to let it get me down because this is a lifestyle not some quick diet.

My gf and I get thin crust pizza from Pizza Hut if we feel the need. And some pizza huts have a "light and fit" pizza. that is low fat cheese and if you get that and veggie toppings, or canadian bacon instead of peperoni, you can have like 3 slices and still be WAY under and it won't derail you. We did the other day and It wasn't anything in calories compared to regular crust and we still got our pizza fix. Just control your intake of it.
  • For me, it only sets me back a day or two, but that's because of the high amounts of sodium and large quantities of food. I throw that off by chugging water and exercising.

LOL it sucks. I wonder how often "at goal" people can do it, in between all that time in which good behaviour needs to make up for it.

Say... Ten days of being good to have a tiny loss or stay where you're at in between "eat what I want" meals or days. bah. Guess I gotta find healthier, tastier recipes that won't set me back. grrrr.

I realized how bad sodium can be recently too. Crazy! That and the importance of being regular... woah!

ninerbuff, thats probably because of your routines? Because you have lots of muscle and are a guy?

Its really annoying too that my husband can eat the same stuff (EVEN MORE) and be like 50 lbs less than me. Not fair! LOL

I think I am sensitive to carbs. When I did SB phase one I lost nearly 10 lbs a week... but I can't live like that.

I wish they would come out with that around here... I LOVE PIZZA HUT. But I don't love being 5 lbs heavier this week because of one dang meal.

If they do it right that is... lol.

I'm the same way after eating chinese food. Even though I get the steamed chicken and broccoli with brown rice (I know the owner so she makes it for me) but they put on a light sauce that has alot of sodium. It takes me 5 days to come back, but when I do it shows the loss as well, if that makes sense?

I weigh once a week and have not noticed any problems with pizza or any take-out food affecting my weight loss. I just make sure to fit it into my calorie goal and try to limit it to once a week (or less).
  • Love pizza! Thanks for sharing this =)
  • i dont think i get set back at all, I had a takeaway last night, But i worked my balls off in the gym and i managed to stay under my calorie limit.

Its tough to stay on track so i find a little treat keeps me motivated.

I am not weighing myself weekly, I am weighing myself every 8 weeks, So i can look at the scales and think WOW ive lost 2 stone, instead of only losing 2lb a week, and there will be some weeks i probably wont lose anything.

i know i shouldnt eat junk, I wish i could eat healthy all the time, but i have these urges, i turn into the hulk if i dont eat something greasy
  • Cheated for 4 days on my business trip last week.

    Gained 1.5 pounds

Since I have returned, 6 days now, lost 2.5 Although I am sure to be told its water weight, again :P

I have found weight loss is often 2 steps forward, 1 back. And that is OK to let yourself cheat sometimes if you have the willpower to get back on track after.

Its all about the long game.
  • Sodium always gets me. If I go over, the scale jumps up 3-5 pounds overnight. I've been trying to monitor it but it's surprisingly difficult to cut down on as it is even in a lot of the healthier options I enjoy. Arrgh.
