I have been trying to lose weight since January (started trying as soon as I weaned my son), and have only lost 20 pounds so far. I was doing pretty well until a hit my current weight about two months ago and then completely stopped losing. I adjusted my settings on MFP, and it then said that I should eat only 1330 calories per day. I had it set like that for two days, and felt HORRIBLE. I have always loved running and working out, but on that many calories, I felt nauseous and weak just walking up the stairs in my house. I do eat my exercise calories, but apparently I really don't burn that many, and I felt too weak to get going in the first place. Is this normal? I put it back up to over 1400, but should I leave it at 1330? I would really like to lose these last 15 pounds or so, and so many people seem to be doing fine on only 1200 calories. Would I get used to it and be able to run again after a while? I would appreciate any advice...thanks!

Also, I am avoiding carbohydrates like sugar and processed grains, etc., if that matters.

it took me a little while to adjust to eating fewer calories. i tried to go straight from about 2000/day to 1300/day and was miserable! so i bumped back up to about 1600 and then slowly eased my way down. i also like to work out a little extra from time to time so i can eat a little more every now and then. maybe just try reducing your calorie intake 50-100 calories at a time, see if that's easier?

Do you have your activity level set correctly given you're now an active mother? I really doubt if you're sedentary anymore, that's for sure!

Personally, I wouldn't stick so rigidly to a diet that I ignored what my body was trying to tell me. If you feel you need to lower your rate of loss by a 1/2 lb per week, then do so.

I thnk that healthy foods rather than caloric content is a better option, especailly if you are so hungry and hitting platuea.

  • I recommend you pick up a book by Tosca Reno called The Eat Clean Diet Stripped. It's geared toward helping with those last pounds. I am not there myself, unfortunately LOL...but plan on reading it when the time comes.
