Alternative Cardio While Stress Fracture Heals?

I'm pretty sure I have a stress fracture in my left leg near the ankle. It bothers me when I run, point my toes (including swimming), jump on it, or wear heels.

As a recent convert to running, I can't remember what I did for exercise before other than swim and take a dance class here and there (off limits now). I DO recall that the boredom of 40 minutes on the elliptical or stationary bike kept me from working out.

Any tips for quick, high calorie-burning cardio that I can do for 3-4 weeks without my leg taking a beating? And preferably, without me losing my running stamina?

Pretty sure? As in, I'm pretty sure I should see a doctor about this?

You could try chopping wood. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I run quite a bit and when I get injured, this is a pretty good way to keep the heartrate up.

Yes, shadow boxing at high intensity can be a pretty good cardio workout.

Pretty sure as in I probably should but I work 60-70 hours a week, 40 miles from my primary care physician. Also stress fractures generally won't show on an Xray and require an MRI, and my insurance won't cover MRI without an acute injury. Total bummer.

So basically, Ima stay off it for 3 weeks and see if it goes away, but I don't want to not work out for 3 weeks.
  • I am able to get my heart rate up to 170 doing just punches, so I agree with the majority! Get some .5 or 1 pound gloves to wear too to get your heart rate higher and work on those arms. If it doesn't hurt your foot, do your punches in a squat.

See a doctor! You may need a boot.

And their not likely to do anything about it either unless it's a serious fracture and you'd know if it was.
