I stretch nightly- but I'm so stiff all the time, mainly in my legs.. Do you know of any good stretches? Does it just take time before I notice in not so tight?

I suggest checking on line for yoga poses that are specifically designed for tight leg and hip muscles. Just do what you can, don't push it. Yoga helps tremendously.

Warm Up First !!! This can be a chicken or egg coming first thing.

I am no expert and still working this out myself, but the stretching is obviously a good start...

BEFORE stretching, warm up. Based on your photo (that is all I know about you) you seem like a busy mom, so the stretching routine may not be until things have settled down, and your body cooled down. Seeing as it is your legs, warm them up first - walking does this for me - 20-40 minute walk and I usually 'got this'.

The chicken / egg thing is down to stretching before other exercise or is it the other way around ? Stretching before a run should have probably still had a gentle warm up first anyway.

All that from a limber walkers' perspective .... Bumping now for other ideas from more knowledgeable folks.

EDIT: OH and congrats on getting so close to your goal. Well done ! Friend request coming to see what you have been doing to get there.

I would also suggest Yoga or Pilates.

How limber exactly? If you're looking to be able to do the splits, it's nearly impossible to do it by yourself. You either need to get a stretching partner or rig up a pulley system.

Not for me, naturally a bit more flexible than some. Yes, may be difficult or impossible for some. However, as jg627 said ... a partner (eg a PT) may help.

Some may beg to differ (impossible by yourself):

I did it by myself in high school using a pulley system. You're right it's not impossible, but it is hard and much easier with a partner.

Come to think of it, I was basing that off my own experience which was before the internet came around. Apparently nothing is impossible with google. I even found a Stephen Hawking rap album. No joke.

Yes it takes some time, maybe even someone to help, but rest assured you can get stretched out!!

Yoga! But yeah, it's best to do it when your muscles are really warm, like after a workout. I've even got my husband to do it a few times and he is the most in-flexible person I've ever seen, like amazingly in-flexible.
