Way to go everyone!! You all did so good! I have my first one next Saturday. I will only be in my 4th week of C25k so I don't have great expectations....just excited to be "moving". Gonna treat like another train day....and just walk run to finish depending on where I finish when C25K finishes. Like the idea of the grapes...any other good tips for the newbies to the running?

I realize this is after the fact but how did it all go ?
I always advise runners to try and pay attention to their own pace and to not get caught up in the other runners around them.
Try to run a slower pace at the start and then pick up the pace after the halfway mark
Request me as a friend if you want to dialogue more. I have run 4 marathons and 7 half marathons with the next 1/2 on Oct23rd

Take care and I look forward to a report on how 5k #1 went

I have my second 5k this weekend! So excited! def. gonna make even MORE of an effort to pay no mind to the people around me. I found myself getting caught up in other peoples pace...forgetting that this race has ALL different skill levels of runners lol.

I have become kind of a race addict now lol My first race was a half marathon, then I did the 5k on October 15th, and now I am signing up for a 10k at the end of the month, kinda doing everything backwards, lol oh well =)

I have my 2nd race this morning! can't wait! I thought I was getting a cold but I feel better today than I did yesterday. We shall see once I actually start moving lol.
  • Congrats!! These races are addicting. I did my first 5K on 8/20 and tomorrow I will be running in my 8th!!! Keep up the great work.

woooo! I did better than last time! and this with a cold! lol I did it in 30:11. I love this idea of organized runs lol. Getting free swag, shirts, tote bags and starting to see some of the same people at different events is fun! I almost feel like I "belong" to something...I never really had that feeling growing up! That race has set the tone for the rest of my day lol

    Great job!

I'm a wheezy mess after mine. It's a little cold out, and I have a little cold, and I pushed it HARD. I think my voice is 4 octaves lower now!

Didn't win any medals, but I think I was 3rd in age group (only award to 1st), 6th out of all women, and 20th overall. Shaved 30 seconds off my best time (a month ago) for a new PR of 24:59!

the race I was running was the same...only giving awards to the top in each age group. I know for sure I would have placed if they did top 3 but OH WELL. lol.

Got a few more coming up before the end of the year. Going to have to continue to run after work and get my speed up.

Here is a question... What Do you like to eat after a 5k, 10k etc etc. Any kind of thing where you worked hard and feel like you earned yourself a good meal??? When I ran the Warrior Dash I said "I WANT A BIG BLOODY STEAK! NOW!" hahaha. Right now I am just sitting around thinking about what to eat. The food offered after the race is starting to wear off..

It was a very pretty run! All the leaves were changing already and the weather was nice and cool.

I ended up using a 3 year old olive garden gift card for lunch. needless to say I won't be eating dinner either.

LOVE Olive Garden. I hate the fact that there isn't one in C'ville, but I miss it!

I signed up for the Wicked 10k next weekend in VA Beach and they are giving us a bowl of chili and 2 beers after we finish lol I guess it just depends on the length of the race to determine what you should eat afterwards...after I ran the half marathon people were talking about eating huge burgers and loading up on fries and such, but after that long of a race you need some calories back! lol

I eat "whatever I damn well please."

Immediately after a race, I crave donuts or brownies. Sometimes they have them, but today it was just bananas and Nutrigrain bars. All thoughts of healthy eating go right in the toilet after a race. It's time to celebrate!

I don't eat anything special before or after to refuel, though. My typical run is 4-5 miles, so a 5k is easier than what I subject myself to the rest of the week. I have notice, though, that the three times I had something alcoholic the night before a race, I set PRs. A glass of wine or two might become a pre-race ritual for me.

Oooo the race on Saturday had all sorts of goodies from Panera bread, and doughnuts, and fruit cups and bananas. It was an awesome spread.

Ha ha! I think I had a few glasses of wine too before my 5K this past Saturday! Did my personal best.....well, it was my first 5K. But I like tradition! Think of adopting yours....worked for me! ha ha
