Ok I know I'm a little obsessive. Its just my personality, but I just ranted in my blog, but thought I'd officially ask for help here. I am struggling to find a variety of food to eat that I find appealing and fits within my thoughts of healthy. I have calories left to eat today, I had nothing but chicken, yes chicken cooked on the forman with a smidge of babrbque sauce. I don't feel like eating anything else. I'll find something wrong with all my options that I have here at the house. I'm afraid even to allow myself even the smallest cheat or treat out of fear of triggering a binge.

When I started eating healthy again I quit smoking cold turkey, gave up all soda, and fast food at the same time. I then started exercising again. So I went from one addiction to another I fear. I am losing weight and feeling so much better, physically and emotionally!!! What can I eat that I won't feel guilty about.

I have calories left to eat oday and I haven't even exercised yet today. If I do get a work out then I'll be even more calorie deficient.
I'm so stuck right now. Most nights aren't this bad so I don;t know why today is so off. Maybe I'm just crazy!

There are so many good foods you can eat. Fruits, veggies, some whole grain cereal with some milk. You don't have to cheat, but you do have to eat. That might be my new slogan.

Depends on what you like....I'm kind of the same way. I've found that in the past I would be super strict and then I would quit. But I have been trying different veggies (never liked them...or was never made to eat them lol) and things that I normally wouldn't eat. But I can go to town on some brocolli and its filling and low in calories. Natural nuts (not salted, or roasted), boiled eggs ( I sprinkle Mrs. Dash on mine bc it has no cals or sodium), string cheese, a spoonful of peanut butter..... I do things like that. Good luck!

First off - don't let food control you. Don't let it have that kind of control over you -- you need it to survive, but don't let it be all about food.

There are a lot of healthier options out there - veggies, fruits, nuts, cheese, brown rice. This isn't about depriving yourself - it is about learning to eat better. Choosing healthier options - like brown rice instead of white rice or wheat bread instead of white. If you continue the way you're going, you are going to wake up one day VERY resentful of what you're doing and will binge eat. Take it from someone who has been there, done that.

Instead of making this be a "diet" (which means restricting yourself) - make this a lifestyle change. Eat what you like, but eat it in moderation. Read labels and learn about serving sizes. It isn't all or nothing and trying to make it be that way is a recipe for disaster.
  • You should eat something, even if it's bad for you, eat a small amount and you will not gain weight, especially if all you had today was chicken and you plan on exercising. I developed a habit of compulsive eating, and on "good" days I would be afraid to eat just like you, but your body needs food and function.

Hey there! I totally understand that fear... the other weekend I had "just a cookie or two," which turned into a dozen cookies that weekend! Yikes! Here are a bunch of the foods I've been eating regularly:

When I need to consume MORE calories:
    - a tablespoon of peanut butter - if you have the extra calories, slice up an apple and scoop up the peanut butter with that, it's yummy
    - greek yogurt with honey (yummmm)
    - drink fruit juice - it's loaded with calories, but not too unhealthy of calories
    - cream cheese or any sort of cheese, ideally paired with a fruit - cheese is one of my favorite things, and it's full of calories
    - I have some individual pudding snacks on standby for a sweet treat - the full calorie ones are great for when you need more calories, and the sugar free version is great when you need less :-)

When I need something filling that DOESN'T have a lot of calories:
    - chicken - I know, boring right? Depends on what you do to it! I've been using the frozen chicken tenderloins from costco for easy portioning. Put a few of those in a plastic bag with some Franks Hot Sauce and let marinate several hours (or longer, or shorter)... tastes like buffalo chicken, but with only 5-10cal per tbsp of the sauce! Or, use Montreal Chicken Seasoning on the chicken... spices and herbs are great low-to-no calorie flavor adders!
    - Marlin. I used to think I didn't like fish... boy was I wrong! Fresh marlin is awesome - very very firm, almost like chicken, and with soooooo few calories! I just sprinkle both sides generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a bunch of lemon juice and cook on the stovetop, and it's super-yummy and incredibly filling. Seriously, marlin Really really is filling. It is also delicious with the montreal chicken seasoning... :-)
    - get veggies! If you like them raw, that's awesome - easy for you. I've been cooking up (in a NON-STICK frying pan, only need a tsp of olive oil that way) Tons of fresh sliced onion, zuccini, yellow squash, varied colors of bell pepper, mushrooms, and japanese eggplant (any combination of those) with salt, pepper, garlic, a dash of cayenne, and if I am in the mood, a sprinkle of some other random spices like spike or another all purpose one. Make veggies the Biggest part of your meal - they'll fill you up, and you'll stay full for quite a while, and they are very low calorie!
    - eat raw spinach. I like mine wilted... as in, I pile cooked veggies and maybe some chicken or marlin on top of raw spinach, and put it in the toaster oven for like 5-10 minutes, until the spinach is just a little wilted. Again, tons of nutrients, super filling, and few calories!

Sorry for the looong post - I made my food/exercise diary open to view; feel free to look through my diary for ideas.... I've been having a great time eating all sorts of new, healthier food options this past month :-) :-)

I'm a binge eater also, it isn't easy I know. But you will have to face your fear, and do it anyway! I used to binge everyday all day, then a few times a week and now it's once a week or fortnight... it will get easier and less and less often, and you will still lose weight, I am :) so hang in there, and eat heaps of: Nutrient dense food and superfoods (fruit, vegies, proteins etc..., wholefoods and healthfoods and plenty of water, organic apple cider vinegar, molasses and herbal teas.
Good luck, you can do it :flowerforyou:

I know that it sounds crazy, I'm sorry. I am not a fan of very many fruits but I am expanding my vegetables. I think I just don't feel like eating so my brain is conflicting with my lack of hunger. I am eating what I like but I am not gonna eat all the crap that I have in the past. I can't eat a lot of what I used to cause it doesn't taste good anymore, so I can tell my taste buds and what my body finds appealing is changing for the good. So do I force myself to eat more tonight or let it be? That'll be the question of the night.

Theres so much more you can eat....No reason to just have a smidgen of BBQ sauce on some chicken and call it good....Your diary is private so cant give too much advice on what you are currently eating but heres what I eat most days for lunch. (for breakfast I usually have a banana or protein bar or 2 packets of Oatmeal)

Chicken or Thin Cut Porkchops...cooked in 2 tablespoons of butter and mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, and sometimes asparagus added to sautee in the butter. I then put it in a whole wheat tortilla - butter and all. Sometimes I add some ranch and sometimes it not necessary depending on the seasoning I put on my meat. Sometimes I add homemade salsa - just a little bit. Its very filling and is under 800 calories. Especially if you do without the ranch :-) it also depends on how much meat I cook.

Sometimes I just have a nice ham sandwich for lunch with yogurt and cottage cheese or a salad. I also eat snacks as I can throughout the day. I love the 100 calorie snacks that are cookies and brownies and stuff.

Sometimes I have a frozen pizza and just count it into my day :-P

Fruit, veggies, you can have lots of these usually. Protein bars. Tomorrow I plan on having some eggs and sausage for breakfast. Dunno about lunch but probably some pork or a sandwich and save the pork for dinner. I also drink a LOT of water, but I actually have always loved water so no prob for me to drink a ridiculous amount every day.

I also try to eat all of my workout calories back. This allows me to eat a total of 1600-1800 calories a day. Yum...foooodd....

I had a hard time eating this much food at first but the more I workout the hungrier I get and I need to eat the food. Some of these guys have great recipe ideas. Theres lots of threads and blogs listing food/meal ideas.

OK I think I finally got my diary fixed. I tried to make it public the other day and somehow managed to only change it to friends. So now its public.

Why don't you go back and have my favorite meal of the day... BRINNER!! You can have an egg white omelet with some veggies and a piece of toast with peanutbutter or sugar free jelly.

swhitney2: I was sick this morning and didn't feel good until lunch time so thats why I had no logged breakfast. It was a struggle at lunch to eat for fear of not feeling well again. I normally have eggs and cheese or a protein bar and banana, etc.

First thing I noticed with your diary is you are leaving alot of uneaten calories :-) this should help you get some more food in that belly! :-) Try to eat most of your exercise calories back and when you dont exercise def eat all 1200 and if you go over a little its not a big deal at ALL. Its hard I know - Ive been adjusting to eat them all too. But you will feel better and you will still lose weight. Get some healthy snack stuff to fill in the calories if you need it. Or eat a bigger meal once a day. I eat a big lunch and then eat lighter at dinner and eat snacks and stuff.
  • Google "Rabbit starvation" and find out what you are doing to yourself by not providing some variety beyond extremely lean meat in your diet.

Fat and carbs are not evil. Even us low carbers understand that we some carbs are good, we just disagree on how many. Not one of us does "no carbs"

I suggest you eat fried cabbage, it doesn't have many calories in it and you can eat a whole pan without feeling guilty. It is also cheap to make and doesn't take long to cook. Depending on how much pepper you use it can still have the sweet taste of cabbage or it will taste hot. I like it both ways. Pay attention to it while your cooking it though.
