Want to look like Barbie....

So I happened to stumble across an article on yahoo today that I found quite interesting, and I am sure that many of you will as well! It was about what procedures would be needed to make a model look like what Barbie would in real life. It was quite a shock! Though I have never wanted or strived to look like Barbie, it was a bit shocking to see that some people really would like to achieve that! :ohwell:
Here is the link to the article! Hope that you all find it as informational as I did!

What's sad is that people want to look like other people. So much for being yourself. :frown:0 -
Ew. I'd rather have my girly bits where God put them. Thanks...
Scary though.0 -
Healthy is the new skinny - I think slowly but surely more and more people are realizing it. Or maybe that's just the ones I hang around...0

Yeah I am hoping that it will help other people learn! I LOVE that website! I am glad that people are out there trying to help women understand that they are beautiful no matter what size or shape they are! Pants size doesnt define you!0 -
look at how small the neck is, they should have done a second photo with everything outside the dotted line removed.0

OMG, I just watched this and nearly fainted. How could any woman want to try and be something so unrealistic.
I'm 50 in January and guess what, I love me!
I have stretch marks - 2 big babies - I'm only 4' 11'' :ohwell:
I have wrinkles at the edges of my eyes - Just goes to show how much I've enjoyed life
Yes the girls maybe are pointing a little south these days - see above remember to 2 babies
My skin okay, maybe it is a little loose - my weight loss and exercise is helping tone things up
I love my body and it's imperfections it shows me I've lived and am living life.
I'm not sitting on the sidelines complaining about every little thing that goes wrong.
Love who you are ....you are so worth it :flowerforyou:0 -

Yeah I was thinking the same thing! How gross would that be ? Uggh! :frown: SO sad that women actually WANT to look like this!0 -
The 15yo at the end mad me really sad... The entire point of the photo completely overlooked... Sigh... :sad:0

Agreed! We totally have to learn to love ourselves for being us! Until we do that, it will be a constant struggle with ourselves, fighting to look like something that isnt even real to begin with! :frown:0 -
That is sad. What about the novel concept of simply making the most of what you were naturally blessed with?
I also wonder how many men as signing up to undertake surgery to look like Ken? Probably none...0 -

Lol - maybe but then again GI Joe isn't exactly...packing...in all departments shall we say
I think I'll stick to hard work, persistence and being happy with myself. Viva la difference...0 -

Totally! Hard work and persistence is MUCH better than desiring to be something that we are not, and never could be. (Simply because many of the people we strive to look like dont even look like that themselves!):ohwell:0 -
I haven't read the links yet, but did you know they made Barbie more proportional since we were children? My girls have some of my old dolls and some new ones. My old ones can't wear the new clothes because their boobs are too big! Then new ones have slimmer shoulders, smaller boobs, and bigger waists.0

Yeah I know that, but still she isnt realistic! I knew that they gave her bigger hips and legs for sure, as for the top half of her I think it may be the same, Cause my old Barbie's couldnt wear the clothes that my moms Barbies could, but they could all wear the same shirts....unless they have changed them ever more since then...Thats good that they have done that though!0 -
It is very unfortunate that there are all of the SUPER MODELS out there and girls look up to them and want to look like them. What they dont realize is the pictures are air brushed and Barbie is just a doll. I suffer from anorexia and wouldnt wish this on anyone, but it really upsets me to hear young girls wanting to get tips to get skinny.(they are usually not the ones who develpoe eating disorders) but I ask them..really you want to look like me? You want to damage your body beyond repair..basically you want to die. When I put it like that alot of them say no. But it is a real shame that I should have to talk someone out of such extreme measures to lose weigh..just to make yourself feel good about yourself. Because I can personally tell you that yes it does feel good to lose weight, but at what cost? While I was just in the hospital for my ED there were girls that wre 10 and 11 years old. Thank goodness their parents are getting them treatment while they are young, but how many are out there that dont. Our whole society focuses on this..even car ads..really you need to have some hot sexy woman to sell a car. We are so obsessed with dieting that it has lead to obesity. Diet this and diet that..funny how we have all of this "diet foods" and people are at there heavies weights.(here in the US) People want the quick fix..part of the reason for plastic surgery. What ever happened to eating in moderation and exercising. Yes exercising..which means kids cant just sit in front of the TV and watch it or play video games. I am not against either as I love both, but when I was younger I had to be called into the house for dinner. I wasnt already there in front of the boob tube. And if my mom took me to Mc Donalds it was for a treat. Not once or twice a week like some many do. With the focus now on kids getting heavier I hate to see how many more are going to develop eating disorders. Basically we are telling them that it isnt ok to be the way they are. If parents would have just taken the time to make sure the ate right in the first place this wouldnt be an issue. I praise all of you on here that your life isnt controlled by a number on the scale. I dont want to look like barbie, but at the same time the weight loss never seems to be enough. Good article!0

The 15yo at the end mad me really sad... The entire point of the photo completely overlooked... Sigh...
They edited her quote, here's the full thing from the website:
“At first this photo made me feel a little bad. I thought if a girl as pretty as that has to change so much to be perfect, it made me wonder how much more I’d have to change. Then I realized how ridiculous it would be to try and change (Katie’s) body. She’s perfect the way she is even if she’s imperfect in the eyes of a plastic surgeon or some dude who wants a Barbie doll. And if she can fall short of the ideal and still be so beautiful… maybe I can too.”
Oh, but my least favorite thing about this whole article? The fact that that woman is considered plus-size. >.<0 -
wow the imaging in that article is great!
ive never really wanted to look like a barbie doll as i am happy with all my curves (just tightend and toned please) but it was good to see the image of how much barbie actually strays from a normal female body.
its amazing that a toy has inspired people to have surgery and diet to extreme measures in a hope to look plastic.0 -
I honestly do not like how they used a plus size model to compare. Call it what you will, but an average-looking woman is considered a plus-size model. They should have used a size 0-2 model to compare it with. If people feel they need to have surgery to make them better-looking and happier with themselves, then go for it. We teach our kids this all the time. I had braces as a teenager because the dentist told my parents that my teeth were too crooked. Really, there were not. I didn't really need braces, or want them, but my parents told me that I had no choice in the matter. To me it's sending the same message as telling your kid you have to lose weight to be pretty, or getting your kid plastic surgery so they'll "fit in" more, or even piercing your infants ears so they'll look pretty.0

When I had Barbies as a child, their clothes still didn't fit. It taught me that no matter how beautiful you are, there are still going to be millions of clothes that don't fit.0 -
Cant believe that model is consider plus size..what the heck is considered plus size now a days...12, 14? Wow she doesnt look it to me0
