  • just depends on the person and your body type...if your mixing up your exercise i eat about 1500 calories a day and burn about 500 calories a day and im loosing weight...so as long as you get your heart rate up stick with burning about 300 calories a day and see if that works..
  • You should not dip below 1200 net calories. So you should eat back your exercise calories. You need to fuel your body (I am a marathon runner and my net calories is set way higher than 1200 and I am still losing).

If your goal is set to have 1200 a day (you are using MFP tool to set your goal), it's already built in the deficit for you to lose weight, even if you don't exercises. However, with exercises, it has much more benefit and help you lose faster.

BUT since the 1200 setting already have deficit built in, when you exercises (no matter how many calories you are burning), EAT back your exercises calories!!! Say if you burn 300 calories, you will be eating 1200+300 = 1500 that day. If you are logging your food diary & exercises, just have your daily "Remaining" as close to zero as possible.

For exercising, if you are starter, try slowly so you don't overwhelm yourself too much too quickly. Start with 1-2 cardio, 1 strength training a week, then add more as you get more fit. Just make sure you have 1 or 2 rest day weekly.

Get a Heart Rate Monitor to measure your burn because everyone is different.

http://shouldieatmyexercisecalories.com/ -> 2nd page has many links that you should read, it'll help you understand how it works and lose weight in a healthy weight.

    Good luck.

Like another poster said, it depends on the person. Every person burns differently. I, for example, have a slow thyroid and another condition known as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Both of these conditions make my weight loss efforts more difficult than that of the average healthy individual. The basic idea for losing weight is to burn more calories than you consume each day. Your body burns calories all day long, even while you are sitting still. Particularly when you are exercising regularly. Regular, vigorous exercise speeds up the metabolic rate (the rate at which your body burns calories when sitting still), so you are burning tons of calories even after you are finished with your workout. That is why it's important to "eat back" the calories you burn in your workout. Even if you eat the 1200cals + 500cals burned=1700cals, when you take into consideration all of the other calories you burn throughout the rest of your day, you are still burning more than the 1700cals you have consumed. You should still lose weight. However, if you aren't getting enough calories, your body will think it's starving and your metabolism will shut down to conserve calories. Therefore, you'll stop losing weight even though you are exercising and eating very little.
