Broken Toe, what do I do?

So, on Friday night I decided to smash my little toe into the wall. I was just walking from the kitchen to the dining room and wasn't paying much attention, obviously. Funny thing is, I just got my gym membership two weeks ago. I started going three times a week and did two compound lifts for resistance training each time and started the Couch to 5 K program. I even started losing about a pound and a half each week.

Now what do I do? Half my foot is slowly turning blue. I got my little toe taped to the next one and that helps a lot with walking. I think going to the doc is worthless cause what can you do about a little toe anyways.

Does anyone have experience with a little broken toe? I am pretty sure I can't be running for a while, so I thought of just hitting the weights good for the next weeks and kick back into more cardio when my toe gets better. I just hope that I'll still be losing weight, but I am planning on keeping my calories in check.

Stationary bike should be doable if you tape the toe. Weight/resistance training and even swimming should be manageable. I have broken my toes way too often, as I am the queen of going barefoot. Good luck.

If your foot is blue, I'd say at least go to an urgent care place, or your GP on Monday. At least get good pain killers. In the meantime, take it easy. Do the weights and arm exercises. For fun google, Sit n Fit. ;) Do abs and floor exercises. Best wishes and fast healing!
  • Yesterday I smashed my foot into the coffee table. Mine doesn't sound as bad as yours though. My fourth toe (the one next to my pinkie toe) is blue and swollen, I taped it up and put on my roomiest comfiest sneakers before going to the gym. I was certainly not able to do my normal Saturday work out (step aerobics and calistenics) but I did manage 20 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes on the stationary bike. I started on the elliptical and that began to hurt so I moved over to the stationary bike. I suggest trying a few things out to see if there is some way to get your cardio in and at the same time not make your toe worse. Good luck!
