could anyone tell me where to purchase a HRM that shows calories burned for ladies in the UK? or can you recommend one that you use? obviously the cheaper the better but i am willing to spend money if i have to as i believe it will be a good investment.

I am in the UK so please consider this when answering. Thanks in advance!!!!

I have a Polar FT4... got it on Amazon about 2 months ago for £55 which was a good price.

The FT4 is a basic model suitable for both men and women but what I particularly liked about the Polar strap is that it is fabric (sort of faux leather at the front with the sensors woven in behind and an elastic back strap fully attached with a slide clatch. The WearLink sesnor transmitter then clips on to the strap via two pop studs:

The FT4 looks a bit like a Swatch from the 80s but it's a doddle to setup. Just enter gender, weight, height and age and bingo! Run the sensors on strap under the hot tap and then strap it on. It'll feel weird at first, but soon you'll hardly notice it, especially as you're probably used to wearing a bra anyhow.

I wore it all day at work once (so I could see how many Cals I was burning walking between stations, walking around town at lunchtime and walking up and down the 11 flights of stairs at work...) and apart from twisting a couple of times, it wasn't that uncomfortable.

What the FT4 does is tell you is...
    how many Calories you've burnt
how long your training has lasted
how many mins you were "in Zone" i.e. burning fat
and it gives your avHR and maxHR.

And that's it really. Might not seem a lot for your £55 but unless you invest heavily in GPS technology, there's not much more it can tell you.

I bought a Polar 4 off ebay for £20. It has totally changed how I exercise- MFP way overestimates the calorie burn and even the machines at the gym were higher than my HRM. Today I worked out with the wii and worked out accurate calories-slightly different to wii calculations.

I know the UK now has Best Buy, if you happen to have one near you check them out. In the end it would prob be just as easy to order online.

It depends on what your budget is.

I bought the Polar FT4 from Amazon. It cost £60 plus the postage.

When setting it up you specify what gender you are.

I'm very happy with the FT4.

p.s. I'm from Ireland so I'm close enough to the UK to be able to comment.
