I have so learned my lesson....

So I have been exercising ... inconsistently for almost a year. I had been wearing these shoes that looked rough, but I loved them. I got more serious about my exercise in the last couple months, only missing a few days here and there (and boy did it make all the difference).

My mother gave me a pair of shoes that she had bought for herself and couldn't wear. They fit me and weren't as worn. So I changed the shoes I has been wearing to the new ones.

A couple weeks ago I noticed my knees were REALLY sore. Like I was tearing them up or something. But I figured I just landed wrong during a workout and it would work itself out. Then I realized it wasn't going away. I started thinking "maybe I am just getting old and I have to accept that my knees aren't really going to handle this to well anymore" (I am 33... but still). I stayed true to my exercise and some days were worse than others.

Then I had an odd epiphany. My knees didn't hurt when I wore my older shoes. So, on Thursday, I put my old shoes back on. I know this sounds stupid, but immediately my knees felt better. I did my workout. Everything was fine. The next day... my knees didn't hurt. So, I wore them again last night, again today my knees don't hurt... AT ALL.

So the lesson I learned is that as trivial as it seems sometimes, shoes are important to our workouts. Make sure you have ones that support your activities needs.

I share this because I know if it has happened to me, there is someone else out there that this is happening to (and may be oblivious to why) and hope that it saves them days or weeks of pain that is unnecessary.

I can sooooo understand what you are saying. I am on week 5 of c25k and my arches have been killing me. My husband has been telling me to buy new sneakers. I am cheap and feal if I still can wear my old ones and they don't have holes why buy new. Well his persistance won and a new pair are on there way. I haven't gotten them yet, but I'll let you know how it turns out.
