12 lbs in Two Weeks

I never thought I would find myself posting on this forum, but I just wanted to share my story, hopefully being a source of motivation for others; just like all of the success stories that really got me going!
Anyway, a few weeks ago I was in a clothing store and I walked by a mirror. I basically did a double take and was shocked at how awful I looked. I've been fully aware for quite sometime that I was overweight, but for some reason this reflection staring back had a real effect on me. I knew that I had to do something. I needed to change the way I looked and and now felt.
So, a little background about myself. I'm a 24 year old male 5'7". I'm a huge gamer, student, and work for Apple. I've lived a mostly sedentary ifestyle since finishing high school. I absolutely love all the unhealthy foods, my favorite being burgers. A typical day would be: wake up around 7, eat some sort of breakfast sandwich, go to work with a grande coffee (cream/sugar); lunch would be anywhere nearby -- Baja fresh, pizza, burger place, subway, ect. Then came dinner - a lot of times I would order delivery Chinese or pizza or subs. Whatever I was in the mood for. If I had to cook it would typically be a frozen burger and fries or pasta. After dinner i eould spend the rest of my night on the computer. Clearly, this was extremely unhealthy. This continued for months.
So after my reflective epiphany, i have pretty much 360'd my lifestyle and eating habits. I've cut out essentially all carbs and am eating healthy proteins and fruits/vegetables. I've also been forcing myself to workout anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes per night. A lot of people say going to the gym becomes fun after awhile, but I've yet to find this to be true. Although I can tell you that after I finish working out, I feel mentally satisfied.
I also recommend buying a digital scale that's incredibly accurate. This has been a huge motivator for me because even if I see a change of -.1, I still know that I'm losing weight. I've also set some mini goals in the interim. Treat yourself to something nice once you reach a certain weight. For me, I've been looking forward to this XBOX game called Skyrim and will not purchase it until I reach my half way goal of 35-40 lbs.
Another small tip I can give is to walk as much as possible. For instance, when I drive to work I park pretty far away. I don't drive around searching for the nearest spot anymore. When I get back to my apartment I take the stairs, not the elevator. Inconvenience yourself a little bit! It's worth it.
I've stil, got a long ways to go and will definitely update my progress. This app and community has honestly been inspiring.
As cliche as it sounds -- if I can do it anyone can. And I truly believe that. I am an incredibly lazy person. So I'll end with this for now.
Don't make excuses! (unless of course you have a disorder or genetic health problem) Say you live till 80. This diet is less than a percentage of your life!

congratulations on all that weight loss in less than 2 wks.. Like your post... the suggestions you make about getting more exercise and rewarding yourself is good.. Now i will have to think of something to reward myself with .. I know.. a day at the casino ... That will run me a 130 bucks .. but its something to look forward to. Keep it up! How much more do you have to loose .. I just started exercising at home .. 12 min and i gave up hahah .. I want to do it everyday though so maybe i will work myself up to 20 min a day which willl be just right for me .. what kind of work out do you do .. dont push youself too hard on the workouts you might burn out ..0

yeah, that eating out all the time will really get you. they say even ordering a salad can be worse than if you had a huge burger sometimes. sounds like you know what you need to do. my husband is a gamer and he is super thin.....i don't know how he does it.0

Great job so far! I had a similar revelation right before I turned 24. Didn't want to get any older with my health that poor - I was alive, but I wasn't living. I'm amazed at how different my life is now, all because I started with a few small changes. Now, when I start to struggle, I remind myself: "It's not easy, but it's worth it." It certainly is!0

Woohoo! Skyrim is also my reward Although it's going to be SERIOUSLY hard to break away from it long enough to hit the gym... Lol0

great job! when you go to the gym change up your routine so you don't get as bored. make some playlists that get you pumped up.0
