my bmr is calculated at 1455. Why, in my food diary (food ) does it still say only 1230 as my base amount to consume? Thanks Edie

  • MFP sets your daily caloric intake at a deficit designed for weightloss. So, 1455 is how many calories it takes for you to maintain...1230 is how many calories you should consume daily to lose weight.

    your bmr is how many calories you need just for you body to preform necessary functions such as: breathing and you heart beat. this is how many calories you need if you did nothing all day. my bmr is 1500 cals and i eat about 1200 and its has worked for me. I hope that helps, i know it sounds weird to eat less than is needed for basic functions.

  • You would burn 1455 living per day. Theoretically you would need to eat 1455 to sustain your weight .
    by only eating 1230 you are burning off about 225 calories of fat from your body (stored energy)
    But because you do more than rest 24 hours a day walking, standing, perhaps exercise ( 'X' more calories of stored energy will be consumed, eliminating fat cells or stored energy)

    example: doing everything that you do daily beyond that of resting takes 275 more units of energy = 1730 calories. Therefore to sustain your weight you would need to consume 1730 calories of food

    There is about 3500 calories in a pound
    So most calorie reduction diets are about a 500 calorie daily deficit (1230 rather than 1730 calories in) so that it works out to be 500 x7 days = 3500 calories or about 1 pound per week.

    it is important not to eat less than what is recomended as the body can go into (starvation mode, similar to hibernation where ones metabolism slows and calories burnt off per day are reduced to sustain life) in a sense your BMR would reduce further because it is trying to keep your body alive .
