So I haven't worked out the last two days. I know. That's bad. Actually, I haven't worked out the last 4 DAYS because I don't generally work out on the weekends. So I took two extra days off. I was laying in bed this morning, the alarm on it's last snooze reminder, and I had just turned it off. My boyfriend rolls over and says, "Are you going to skip your workout again today?" I told him that I was considering it. Then he says, "You did so well last week getting up every day and now you're going to just go three days without working out?" I said something to the effect of him calling me fat (just because I'm a dumb girl) and then took it back. He got me thinking, got me more awake, and I drug my butt out of my warm, snuggly, cozy bed to get on the treadmill at 6am in my cold, freezing living room. Well, as I woke up and got going I felt better. Then I jogged 1.5 miles, .25 miles over my norm! I did my total of 4 miles in under 65 minutes (I'm trying to get it to 60 min) and I felt fabulous! I got ready for work, gave him a kiss on his sleeping head, and thanked him for guilting me into getting up and working out.

Soooo...I get to work feeling good and my co-worker stops me in my tracks telling me she needs to talk to me. She says that she found an old album from one of our office parties 2.5 years ago and pulled out three pictures of me. She handed them to me and said, "I knew you'd lost a lot of weight but it's so much more noticeable when you look at old pictures!" (This is a co-worker who has gone from 250 to 140 herself.) She handed them to me, smiling, and told me that I looked great. OMG...the difference from now to then...I almost started bawling. The 60 lbs that I've lost so far really, REALLY is huge! I REFUSE to put these pictures back in the album but will use them for motivation whenever I need them.

For so long I've avoided having pictures taken of me or I've deleted the ones that "made me look fat." Um. I was fat. I still have weight to lose and am not fit yet, either. Seeing the pictures definitely made me realize what a wonderful choice I've made for myself! To those of you out there who are getting tired of working out, of counting calories, of being strict with yourselves...I encourage you to find a picture of yourself at your largest. Do it! It's scary, but it's worth it! To those of you who are just starting out, keep a picture of yourself now! Do a before picture and take another picture every now and then so that you can see the difference! This site and all of you here have been so wonderful and helpful in my weight loss journey. Thank you!!! :flowerforyou:

Sounds like you have a wonderful support system around you from your co workers to you motivating hubby. It really makes easier doesn't it. My own hubby is pretty great himself. I also like this site its great reading success stories such as yourself. I know that you are not at your goal but just the fact that you are doing it and are almost there is inspiring to the rest of us. Great Job!

Thank you so much for posting this letter. You spoke to several of my insecurities especially taking pictures and I can definitely relate to deleting pictures if i looked fat. Recently, I have looked back at pictures when I was smaller and I remember thinking that I was fat then and now I am even heavier. Those pictures inspire me to see myself differently and I am learning to appreciate myself at this size while working towards a healthier version of myself. Thank you for sharing and I wish you continued success on your journey.

I can't wait for those days!!! I've been losing but I can't tell where it's coming from. I don't feel or look different yet.

Thanks so much, everyone! If I get a chance later I'll scan and post the "before" pictures up here...actually...I may do it now. Let's all keep it up so we can feel and be our healthiest!!! :drinker: <-- that's water in those mugs, right?

Okay...I just put up two before pictures from the summer of 2006. I wish there was a way to put captions on them. They are HIDEOUS pictures. Another co-worker just said that she had another "not so flattering" picture of me from a Christmas party. I'll put that one on my profile once she sends it, too. Ugh. I should take some current pictures of me, too. Okay, me, me, me...sheesh! Thanks for all of your kind words!
  • Great post, thank you for sharing! Yes, sometimes it’s just plain hard to get excited about working out or eating right, even when we KNOW how fabulous it makes us feel. I am glad you had a great revelation moment like that and I hope you continue to be encouraged and lifted up by it.

And I completely agree about the picture thing. I used to absolutely refuse to get in front of a camera, but did manage to find a before picture (one that’s even full body from head to toe, yuk!). I like to compare current pictures against it to see the progress I am making. Seeing myself in the mirror everyday it’s hard to notice the changes, but looking back that way helps me to see them.
