Interview thank you/follow up

Hey guys. Question for the experienced. I had submitted a resume via email and underwent a phone interview a few days later. Actually the phone interview was this past Friday. I was told the phone interview was the first of three total interviews. My question: when is the time to do a proper thank you for the interview? Should I wait until I have a person-to-person interview before sending a thank you letter, or should I send a thank you email to the person I spoke with over the phone on Friday?

I feel that if I send a thank you email to the HR rep that I spoke with over the phone, it would serve two purposes. It could act as follow up of some sort and It would increase my chances of getting the job. Thanks in advance for all your input!

Send it immediately. Email or snail mail is both acceptable. But you need to send it now. I always send mine immediately.

As an HR professional, I would recommend you send the email a few days after your interview. If you had the phone interview on Friday, send it on Tuesday. What did they tell you after the interview? I'm sure they gave you some sort of a time frame for getting feedback or going to the next step? Use that as your guide.

I don't think I would do it until I had a face-to-face interview with someone in the department, not with HR. Is the second interview a face-to-face interview with an HR rep? In my experience, HR serves to filter through the people to the department who only have experience, and the department is the one who ultimately decides who to hire.

    Good luck my friend! :flowerforyou:

Definitely send it right away to whoever you spoke with. If you have all 3 interveiws, then send 3 thank-yous. E-mail should be ok for the phone interview since it was set up through email, but my own personal advice would be to send an actual card through the mail to the person you meet face to face.

    Good luck!

  • I would send a hand written notes ASAP so that it gets there soon and in the interim send an email to the person who interviewed you.
