Hi all,

I just started here yesterday, and really like the format of this site - it's so easy to use. Anyway, I have just a small amount of weight to lose, but have never been successful keeping off even a pound, and watch my weight crawl up year after year. I'm tired of it. I quit smoking 3 months ago (yay!), and my success at that is motivating me to lose weight. I figure if I can quit smoking, I can lose a few pounds.

I'm wondering though - how often do people weigh themselves? I ask because I have to admit that I weigh myself everyday, and the scale fluctuates a decent amount everyday. I have one of those weight watchers scales that weighs to the tenth of a pound. My weight can fluctuate 2-3 lbs day to day - weighing at the same time everyday (before breakfast).

It's hard for me to stay motivated to lose when I'm counting calories, exercising and all that jazz, but I see the scale jump a pound overnight? And if I weighed myself weekly, how can I trust that what I'm doing is working if it might just be a fluctuation?

Thanks,
WJ

  • Welcome to the site! I've been told by a trainer that you should only weigh yourself once a week no clothing, on an empty stomach, after you use the restroom first thing when you wake up. So its good to see you do that! I'd recommend just weighing yourself once a week because you're going to drive yourself crazy! Good luck!
  • WELCOME! We're glad you came. This website is awesome!

I usually weigh myself once a week. It's too easy to get discouraged otherwise. You know it's not just a fluctuation because it will go down every week (so long as you're eating well and working out).
