BRR it's cold out but I need cardio!!

SO i have mostly been relying on my bike for cardio. I just lost my gym membership due to financial crap so now I'm a little lost! The past few days have been terrible out (I live in Ohio and winter hits decently hard here ) so I'm worrying about how I'll squeeze in my cardio now? I have a little bit of back up right now (An ancient Buns of steel tape and have the 30 Day shred on its way for reinforcements,) but I don't think those will give me the calories burned that I need... Well I have one more reinforcement, an old jump rope which I could do in the cold and snow but I'm terrible at using it. (Any pointers on becoming a jump rope pro, while we're at it?? )
Any pointers? Should I just decrease my calorie intake to compensate? (Also said financial crap will probably keep any elliptical or other home gym equipment out of my house for a while )
I've never been a big bike rider but I'm going to throw it out there and assume that once the snow hits that bike won't be much good on icy roads and snowy park paths...

jumping jacks
running in place or up/down stiars or around in circles
burpees
jump rope motion without the jumprope so you can do it indoors without much space
butt kick runs
run with high knees in place
squat jumps
Do intervals of some, add some pushups in.
youtube indoor cardio w/ no eqip

Jumping rope is my favorite cardio -- I find I burn more calories than running and it is lower impact (I try to keep my jumps to under an inch).
If you have a crappy rope (as you mentioned in your note), you may get a bit too frustrated to keep up with it. If the rope is made of fabric (literally rope) or leather, they tend to tangle up more than other ropes made out of cable or cord. I bought my jump rope for $4 and it is a cord "speed rope" (it's just a plastic cord). I highly recommend a speed rope.
Finally, it you can swing $10, I would buy the Buddy Lee jump rope book off of Amazon. It has a great training program to build proficiency and good details on the different types of jumps. If not, I think he has videos on YouTube that you can check out.
I hope this helps!0 -
