Walking in the woods

I've done my cardio mostly in the gym using treadmill, elliptical or stationary bike, (its been a killer hot summer).
The past couple weekends have been really nice though and we, hubby and me, went for an hour walk around a local pond. I had on my HRM and the calorie count was right up there with the gym equipment, but we agreed we got a bonus walking on the more uneven surface of the path. We agreed our legs and ankles got a nice extra strength and balance workout.
It was also so nice to see the turning leaves, fall flowers, critters and feel the fresh air. We agreed to make Sundays exercise outdoors days. Those who exercise outdoors all the time are probably laughing that I'm excited to have discovered how nice it is be be outside for a change. I'll laugh along with you.

i can relate. We've had 100+ temps all summer and I spent way too much time in the gym. Im now enjoying running the trails through the woods at a local park in my community. Its so much more rewarding. Even midday, its shady because its pretty dense woods. I love it. Its a harder workout too, which i need!

Fair warning - one goes very quickly from getting outside for a walk/run to going for a run even if it is raining/snowing....just sayin...

And welcome to the awesome side :-)

I love hiking in the woods! The second I enter the area I feel all the stress and tension leave my body. My husband and I try to make a point of it at least once a week if not more.
