3 Day Conference and Dinners Out --Help?

Hi everyone! I'm leaving Thursday for a weekend conference in another city. Breakfast and lunch will be on my own but dinner won't be decided until we're in the car leaving the conference for the day. My plan is to bring Kind Bars, water, mints (to prevent nervous eating) and maybe dried fruit. Does anyone have other suggestions for easy to carry non perishable foods I can bring to help me eat healthy while I'm there? The hotel provides breakfast but it's usually just pastries. Lunches at the conference are notorious for being unhealthy. And I don't think I'll have a mini fridge in my hotel room. :-/

To make matters worse, my colleagues love Mexican and Italian food for dinner. I think I can handle healthy Italian but can anyone suggest Mexican food entrees that won't eat up my daily calories in one swoop?

Mexican - I like fish tacos (this is not a euphamism. I like fish tacos).

Just eat what makes sense at whatever restuarant you go to. I can find better options at pretty much every restaurant I go to.

Fajitas aren't a bad choice. You can get chicken or beef with lots of grilled vegetables. You can have it without the flour tortilla, but I can't resist them. A chicken quesadilla isn't bad either, particularly if you can have someone split it with you since you can't take it back to your room.

As for a sweet tooth, I love the mini carmel rice cakes (Fit & Active) that Aldi's carries. You can have 8 of these and they are very tasty! Would be a good thing to take on your trip with you.

For breakfast pack oatmeal in plastic baggies. I usually put 1/2 cup of old fashioned oats and anything else I want for flavor. You can find hot water anywhere in that hotel or in the conference to easily make youself a nice breakfast.
  • Chicken tortilla soup sans the cheese, sour cream, and chip toppings? You can also get one of the grilled chicken entrees and get a side salad instead of the rice and beans. As much as I love fajitas, I often find that they are "grilled" in a lot of oil. And of course, a chicken salad minus the shell (with salsa and just a little dressing). I think as long as you hold the cheese and sauces, you're pretty far ahead of the curve at a mexican restaurant.

Snacks: Almonds (i like the dry roasted vanilla ones!), dried fruit, turkey jerky, popcorn, fat free instant pudding cups, those little tuna+cracker kits... Sometimes hotels have microwaves downstairs, too.

Hopefully the hotel will have some fruit around in addition to pastries! i can't eat that sugary stuff for breakfast!

i just got home from a 4 day conference and I definitely feel like junk. You'll feel much better than me :)

Thanks!! And to clarify -- I love Italian and Mexican too! That's usually where we wind up when we travel, and I'm just not familiar enough with Mexican food to make good choices. But I'll definitely try the fajitas this time around.

Tuna in a can!! 100 calorie almond packs, fruit, lots of bottled water. Order salads with meat and dressing on side! Sometimes I bring my own dressing to restaurants.
