NSV: Some perspective

There was a possibility that I might have done my strength training workout at my parents' home today, so I packed up my DVD and weights in a box and put them in the car. I brought 2 10lb. weights, 2 8lb. weights, and 2 5lb. weights.

When I came back home, and had to carry the box back to the house, I was struck by how incredibly heavy it was, and how much extra energy it took to climb my back steps while carrying it.

And I had a thought... and brought the box to the scale.

It weighed 49.8 pounds. Just under half of the weight that I've lost so far.

It wasn't very long ago at all that I was carrying around DOUBLE the weight of that box, with every step, all the time. It really gave me a new perpective on what I've accomplished so far. :)

WOW... I  when I find a visual (or physical) for the amount of weight that I have lost!!! One of my FAVORITE visuals is sticks of butter... If you have lost 100# then you have now lost FOUR HUNDRED sticks of butter.... imagine that all piled up and sitting in front of you!!!! AMAZING JOB!!!

Great observation! I often think of a pound lost as a pound of butter...about the size of a brick. It's great to hear your story. You are a real success!

In the past I used to get really depressed when I would work out all the time and only lose 3-5 pounds at the end of the month. But recently in health class the instructor passed around those rubber displays of body fat and muscle. I was handed that big yellow squishy block of fake fat and it felt soo heavy! I asked how much it weighed, expecting around 10 lb. but it was actually only 5! I held that thing against my pudge on my belly and was like- "I got rid of THIS!? this much?" Wow! every pound lost is worth celebrating- sometimes you just have to see it to believe it.
