Hi! I have been doing MFP for 9 weeks and as of last week had lost fifteen pounds. When I weighed myself this morning I was up one pound. I have been loosing 3 pounds a week some weeks and I knew the time would come that I wouldn't lose so rapidly, but I hate to be up. I have followed my burns and calorie intakes exactly. Any suggestions on what I can do so this doesn't happen again? I still have at least 25 to lose. Thanks!

You know how they say variety is the spice of life? It's the same with exercising. Try mixing up your routine a bit. Even if you're working hard, if it's the same thing over and over, your body will get used to it. Try working harder or doing different exercises. Also adjust your calorie intake. You may need to raise or lower since you've been losing. I redo my goal here on MFP every time I weigh in to get accurate metrics.

Well it could just be hormone or salt causing a bit of fluid retention. So give it a week.

How's your meal planning? sodium, sugar, fat, carb intake?

Are you doing any strength training?

i dont think one day of going up is a plateau. i think 2 weeks of averaging the same is a plateau. one day of going up is a regular fluctuation.

when i started i was losing 4 pounds a week now im lucky to lose 0.5 per week...expect this, rapid weight loss only happens at the beginning.
  • Wow--15 lbs is great!
I am staying even for the last couple weeks--feels sorta depressing until I remind myself that even if I work hard and don't lose, it is good for my body and heart--and mind! Also, when its around 'that time of the month' I always have bloating...could it be that? Stick with it!

Hi Shanny, don't stress it. You've done really well to date and you will reach your goals. Try mixing up your calories and/or exercise for a few days. Up/down, it usually seems to work in breaking plateaus.

    Good luck.

It's been one week. It's not a plateau. A plateau would be 6 weeks or more of no weight loss if you were consistent. Chaulk it up to your body now adapting. First thing I would do is change the workout.
  • Thanks everybody! I guess it's not considered a plateau, I just don't want it to turn into one!!! Those are great ideas and I've been doing mainly cardio so I will for sure switch it up and add some weights. I knew I couldn't keep losing at this pace I just want to keep losing! Good luck and thank you for the ideas!
