Okay I just read that they said that you should at least eat your bmr calories a day at least, well what if my BMR calories are more than the suggested calorie intake for me. Like my BMR said that i would lose 1944 calories just by resting, but when I typed in that i wanted to lose 2 lbs a week, it said thay my calorie intake should be 1400, So now I don't know what to do, I am confused!

I guess it means if you eat 1944 calories and don't exercise, you will stay at the same weight. In order to loose 2 pounds a week, you need to cut 544 calories a day.0

Yep. To maintain, you body needs to be fed daily with 1944 calories. That is, no activity at all.
" It takes 3,500 calories to equal one pound of body weight." (http://www.dietbites.com/diet-pound.html)
So, if you want to lose twice that much in a week, that is the deficit. Divide that by 7, subtract it from 1944 and there you go .
Every calorie burned, gives you the chance to eat it, while still having the deficit you computed above .
Makes sense?
P.S. All my gratitude goes to MFPs, from whom I learned this :flowerforyou:0 -
OK here is my question...
I just calculated my BMR on here as well and it said
Your estimated BMR is: 1,472 calories/day*
so to lose 1lb per week I should cut it by 500 cals which means I would have to eat no more than 972 calories per day. yet MFP calculated for me 1340 cals per day....
I am totally confused now! Please help :-( :ohwell:0 -

Did it say 1340cal or 1200 cal & you earned today 140cal from exercise?
I think MFP does not go lower than 1200 cal, which is the minimum healthy amount of cals to have daily.0 -

Oh, gosh, I can't believe I said that before a maths class. It doesn't make sense to me now! 3500 divided by 7 is already 500. Mmm....0 -
Bump.
People, how does the maths here go?
Cheers :flowerforyou:0 -
"Your BMR does not include the calories you burn from normal daily activities or exercise."
There is a multiplier you use for normal daily activities based on being sedentary, light activity, moderate, etc. Mine is 1.2 for light I think. I don't remember the whole scale, sorry.0 -
From what I heard, you should eat your BMR calories, but stay under your maintain calories. I'm doing that by eating 1900 calories a day, which is 350 under my maintain cals. My BMR was around 1800.0
