Body Bugg vs. Body Media & 1 important question?

Wanting to hear opinions on both and is there a subscription for either or is the tracking free?

Body Media charges about $6-10/month depending on your contract term. They usually offer 3-6 months free initially. I have a Body Media and it monitors your sleep....frighteningly well. I find the BMF VERY accurate. I have never tried the Body Bugg.

They both charge for their website service which is where you can log in to see all the info from the armband.
BB is more expensive than BMF
BMF monitors sleep
I've heard the BB website for food logging is even worse than BMF (which is pretty bad)
If you watch Costco Online sales, you can find the BMF for about $150, shipped (or less) and it comes with a free extra armband and a year's subscription to the site included.

The way I understand it is that the Bodybug is also made by Bodymedia - and licencsed to the bodybug people - in the pictures they look like the exact same product....

Bodymedia just announced a smaller version (about a third smaller) - it was announced a couple of weeks ago (days after I bought mine...)

I suspect the software, and reports are really the biggest difference.

I have loved having the Bodymedia - I know exactly how many calories I am burning (more than I actually thought I did), and like someone else says even the sleep monitor is pretty accurate.

Interestingly enough (and I have read this a few times previously) the readings for my weighttraining sessions are much lower on my Bodymedia than on my Suunto HRM..... Cardio is pretty spot on between the two devices, but the HRM definintely overestimates calories burned during weight trainining

[edit] I still log my food here on MFP - and then just create one food item every day called MFP Food Log - and log my total calories eaten - as welll as the other macros (Fat, Carbs, Sugar and Protein) - that way I get the information into the Bodymedia reports

You may find this useful. They are pretty much the exact same product, with the Body Media being the ones who essentially create it and make sure that they Bodybugg people maintain the firmware. The main difference is that the Body Media does have the sleep option. Initial cost and monthly costs are also a bit different.

The BodyMedia FIT Bluetooth Wireless Armbands are manufactured and distributed by us here at BodyMedia. All 3 devices are supported by the BodyMedia FIT application Software and all 3 capture, analyze and report on the same data in generally the same way. The Firmware Software installed on each device is proprietary in that the Bodybugg Firmware is developed and supported by 24-Hour Fitness and the Firmware for the BodyMedia FIT and Bluetooth Armbands is developed and supported by us here at BodyMedia.

I just wanted to give some further information on BodyMedia, BodyMedia FIT and bodybugg as well as clarify some points that Ron previously mentioned.
As Ron has stated, we manufacture and provide the hardware and technology for our Partner, bodybugg. bodybugg is managed by 24 Hour Fitness/Apex. They own the web Application and choose what information to provide as well as the features available. Our BodyMedia FIT solution is our consumer weight loss solution that is similar to bodybugg. It is essentially the same hardware and technology, however we develop what features and services to provide to the web application, just as 24 Hour Fitness chooses the same for the bodybugg Application.

Both bodybugg and BodyMedia FIT offer a Bluetooth Armband that will communicate with a compatible Smartphone as well as a model that will communicate with an optional Display Device. We have further information on our website that discusses both the Bluetooth version (BW Armband) and non-Bluetooth (Advantage Armband). There are some differences between bodybugg and BodyMedia FIT, such as:
-bodybugg provides a coaching session with purchase
-BodyMedia FIT provides Sleep data/graphing and Sleep efficiency
-the look/feel and development of the Application is independent from each other, but both solutions will derive calories, steps and physical activity. Both solutions offer meal logging to track and monitor your calorie consumption.

To clarify, the Armband and Display is compatible only with the web Application of the same offering, meaning a BodyMedia FIT Armband and/or Display will only work with BodyMedia FIT Application and same with a bodybugg Armband/Application. The Firmware for the device is developed and improved by BodyMedia. We provide regular updates to our bodybugg Partner to ensure they are using the latest technology. bodybugg has their own support team to assist you with any questions/problems if you purchase bodybugg, and same with BodyMedia FIT.
